Senior Accountant / 7308

Position Description:

Position Summary:Senior accountant position reporting to the Director of Accounting for Discovery Education. Position is integral to the month end close process and preparation and recordation of journal entries relating to expenses and revenue recognition. Responsible for the preparation of reconciliations for G/L accounts. Also responsible for providing support to the Education division by facilitating the accounting function on a daily basis and rendering assistance as requested.Responsibilities: 1. Point person for revenue recognition transactions for the streaming, hardcopy, assessment, and licensing activities.2. Responsible for the content capitalization process in accordance with company policy and the recordation of depreciation and amortization.3. Key person for the month end close process including the preparation and recording of journal entries.4. Responsible for preparation of account reconciliations on a monthly basis including bank accounts.5. Responsible for communicating financial results to the business and analyzing performance.6. Reviews and applies the financial terms of contracts in coordination with the business to ensure fulfillment of contractual obligations and accurate revenue and expense recognition.7. Works closely with credit and collections to facilitate invoicing of customers and accurate and timely invoice generation.8. Is an integral part of the revenue recognition process for streaming products by the use of SAP Contract Management.9. Works closely with the royalty team to review and manage royalty calculation and payments to producers of content.10. Responsible for reviewing inventory transactions and communicating results to the business and the inventory team.11. Provides support to the internal and external audit functions by facilitating testing and providing reporting required.12. Performs special projects as required.13. Assists the Director of accounting as needed.Requirements:* CPA highly preferred.* BS/BA in Accounting.* Minimum 5 years accounting experience.* Strong GAAP skills.* Excellent written and oral communication skills.* Public accounting experience preferred* Proficiency in Excel required.* Able to work as part of a team.* Highly motivated.* Proficiency in SAP a plus.* Must have the legal right to work in the United States.*
