WTMD seeks Underwriting Account Executive Who Loves to Sell and Loves Music

WTMD is Towson University's public radio station serving the greater Baltimore region with interesting and undiscovered music. The station airs a mixture of folk, rock, blues, and singer/songwriter based music designed to highlight artists not often found on radio. WTMD is listener supported with a growing audience of adults not satisfied with other radio choices. WTMD is committed to local music as well and supports local musicians. We are involved with the communities we serve by sponsoring civic and non-profit events and programs.


Bands like the Frey, Los Lonely Boys and Rogue Wave and singers, Mat Kearney, KT Tunstall and Sara Bareilles have broken in Baltimore on WTMD.  We’re music lovers and our audience is highly affluent, active and engaged in both the music they love and their communities.

Underwriting Account Executive
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining corporate and business support for WTMD. Identifies potential business contributors and prepares customized proposals and presentations based on market research and demographics. Suggests appropriated donation level and underwriting announcement schedule. Writes announcement copy within FCC regulations. Secures sponsorships for station events and special programming. Works with Programming Department to manage traffic functions and billing.

This is a commission based position with great potential for someone with super-duper sales skills combined a value system that recognizes the positive impact a media outlet can have on the community it serves.  Public Radio continues to grow while commercial radio if floundering so if you’re selling for another station, or print or internet, and are feeling over stressed and under appreciated, then WTMD might be a good fit for your skills and personality--especially if you ran out and bought the new Cat Power, Killers, or Joe Jackson CD.


Preferred Skills:
Bachelors Degree in Business, Advertising, Marketing, Communication or related field. Self-motivated individual with between 2-5 years experience in media sales or promotion. Ability to cold call. Significant contacts within the advertising agency and music industries. Demonstrated ability to analyze and apply market research data and strong communications skills. Media Audit experience helpful. Knowledge of FCC underwriting and noncommercial station regulations a plus.
