The Associate Director for Business and Management Program Development for the Center for Continuing Education is responsible for identifying educational needs in the business/organizational community that USM serves, and creating and building programs to address those needs. The associate director seeks to connect University resources with business constituencies in ways that enrich both the institution and the business. The associate director conducts needs assessments, oversees their development into program offerings, and creates collaborative relationships and institutional partnerships that support the efforts of the Center. The associate director develops marketing strategies for the Center’s business/management programs that ensure maximum exposure of the program offerings to the relevant constituents at the optimal time. The associate director evaluates program proposals, identifies suitable instructors, develops and maintains a sound budget, develops a creative and extensive schedule of business management training opportunities, and evaluates and improves courses. The associate director recruits, hires, trains, and oversees the work of any program specialists—part- or full-time—that may be needed to coordinate or develop specific programs within the Center, such as those associated with the special programs and conferences.
Qualifications: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree and three to five years’ relevant experience or equivalent education and experience in adult education, curriculum design, or related area. Preferred: Five or more years’ experience in educational program development at an institution of higher education, a corporate/organizational training department, or with a training/organizational management consulting service.
