Copywriter

JAKKS Pacific, a multi-brand company that designs, develops, produces and markets traditional toys, leisure products and writing instruments for children and adults worldwide, seeks a Copywriter to write and review packaging and precise instruction copy in an appealing, informative, concise and easy to understand manner to include in products as well as on web sites, in press releases and other media as required.

 

Responsibilities:Read/analyze technical information for each new product, and any existing products, for inclusion as appropriate in instructions, packaging, catalogs and websites. Observe the product in use, examine it, and use it when possible, to gain understanding. Adjust all products and other copy to meet the needs of customers, marketing and management. Ability to consider laws governing copy such as registered and trademarked symbols, country of origin, CPSC guidelines, and material construction. Ability to draft (from scratch) and to proof existing product instructions, documents, and packaging text that is precise, logical, and grammatically correct. Organize workload for efficient time-management. Timely meet multiple schedule deadlines. Write other types of documents such as news releases, letters of response, personal interviews, items for other departments, instruction manuals, etc. Read and maintain a library of current reference materials. Review copy using checklist and format copy according to department style guide.  Check questionable details. Maintain accurate information in product files. Proofread and edit as necessary. Perform various clerical duties as needed.



Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising or related field2 - 3 years experience, minimum; 3 - 5 years, optimal Copy experience in print, web and/or other media in a large corporate environment.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Adobe Acrobat; Internet.  Ability to learn other programs as needed.Familiarity with intellectual property; helpful to be aware of consumer trends and popular culture, especially with respect to the children’s toy industry.
