The Surety & Fidelity Association of America (SFAA) is a line-specific trade association that has been serving the insurance industry for 100 years.  The SFAA is licensed as a rating or advisory organization in all states.

 

The SFAA serves both multiline and monoline insurance companies that provide surety and fidelity bonds serving the needs of business, public bodies and individuals.  The compilation of industry statistical data for the fidelity and surety lines of business is a core service provided by SFAA.  These reports include rankings of fidelity and surety writers based on premium volume, underwriting expense data and industry premium and loss results for specific fidelity and surety bonds for purposes of loss cost development.  Data is collected from both financial statements and the SFAA Statistical Plan. 

 

We are seeking an individual possessing the drive and skills to work autonomously as well as the ability to function as in important member of the SFAA team to serve as Data Management Associate.  The individual will work with our Actuary, as appropriate, and report directly to the Association President.  

 

Principal Responsibilities:

 

Annual Data Call

 Notify and distribute the “SFFA Call for Statistics” data call to each member and non-member reporting company and manage all aspects of the reporting process, including:

1.  Update the SFAA Statistical Plan and SFAA Actuarial Edit Definitions annually

2.  Follow up with members and non-member statistical filers

3.  Provide direct assistance to companies having trouble identifying how to

Correct their errors

4.  Contact tardy or delinquent statistical reporters on their reporting statusCalculate, distribute and collect fines assessed for submitting statistical data late Reconcile the premium and loss totals of the statistical data submitted with the totals reported in each company’s financial statements

 

Statistical/Financial Report Construction

 Work with a third party vendor on processing and formatting statistical data from each company Compile statistical data and construct statistical reports Pull financial statement results for each company that writes surety, fidelity, or financial guaranty business Compile financial data and construct financial reports

 

 Loss Cost Filings

 Update queries used to aggregate surety and fidelity statistics Construct rating models used in the surety and fidelity loss cost filings Consult with Actuary and Actuarial Advisory Committee on the most appropriate rating methods

 

Statistical Advisory Committee

 Update Statistical Advisory Committee Members on new reporting requirements and other issues regarding statistical reporting Coordinate Statistical Advisory Committee Meetings Draft agendas and minutes for all Statistical Advisory Committee Meetings

 

Miscellaneous

 Market and distribute SFAA statistical and financial reports to non-member companies Perform miscellaneous statistical analyses and construct miscellaneous reports for SFAA members Work cross-functionally with other departments within SFAA to provide data support and statistical knowledge Draft Board Reports and newsletter articles to keep industry leaders informed of new statistical/financial results

 

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business Administration, Mathematics or related field

· Must possess knowledge of general computer software.  Proficiency in Excel, Word and Access required, SQL preferred

· 2-3 years’ experience in data collection or management.
