Director of Contracting
We are an established organization conveniently located in San Diego and we have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Contracting. This position will be responsible for the analysis, negotiation, and implementation of a variety of contracts including general business, provider and managed care contracting strategies as well as monitoring and evaluating contract performance. Identification of opportunities for contract improvement is a key responsibility. Additionally, the Director of Contracting will serve as the in-house expert and resource on federal, state, and local reimbursement methodologies for uninsured and government insurance health access programs (AIM, CMS, Healthy Families, MediCal, etc). The ideal candidate must have a strong working knowledge of commercial insurance product offerings. This position will monitor health care funding policy and as appropriate, participate in debate, dialogue, and advocacy efforts. This position will conduct contract negotiations (including preparation) as may be determined based on the business need of the organization and perform necessary analysis of cost and utilization data in addition to the analysis of the financial and operational impact of contractual proposals. This position will maintain a thorough working knowledge of plan benefit packages, policies and procedures, and interprets this information as needed. A BS/BA degree in a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred; combination of education and work experience will be considered. One to three years experience working in the health care related field, preferably in provider relations or contract management. Must be able to comprehend legal verbiage and compose recommended edits and additions to contract language. Must have an in-depth knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing software (i.e. Excel, Word, Access, etc.) and a working knowledge of health care delivery, primary, specialty, ancillary services, and inpatient/outpatient hospital services. Must also have a working knowledge of reimbursement methodologies (capitation, case rates, fee for service, etc.) and the ability to interact professionally and confidently with all levels of staff within the organization. Candidate must possess a strong customer service orientation with excellent follow through skills and be skilled at building strong relationships. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and be flexible to adapt quickly to changes in the environment. Local travel is required so the ability to operate an automobile is necessary (personal with proper insurance requirements). Infrequent travel outside San Diego may be necessary.
