Berkeley County Government has an opening for a dynamic, collaborative-minded professional to fill the role of Economic Development Director. Berkeley County Government is a diverse, fast growing county of 150,000 residents spread out over 1,200+ square miles near Charleston, SC. The Economic Development Director performs a variety of professional and technical duties related to planning and directing all programs and activities of the Economic Development Department with emphasis on creating and implementing strategies to enhance the economic well-being of Berkeley County. Other essential functions of the position include: Develops and implements strategic development and retention plans to attract business and industry to Berkeley County. Establishes network of contacts to facilitate business development and coordinates promotional activities such as tours and presentations for and meetings between the Chamber of Commerce, BCD Council of Governments, Economic Development Associations, real estate representatives, prospective companies and others throughout the region. Researches and compiles materials which will provide information regarding utilities, taxes, zoning, transportation, workforce training, community services and financing tools for prospective companies.  Develops and maintains a comprehensive inventory of available sites or buildings in the community that can be used for various business entities.  Monitors local, state and Federal legislation relating to economic development and presents trends to the County Supervisor and County Council. Researches and prepares grants available from government agencies that support the business community and economic development efforts.  Responsible for staff supervision and budget development control. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in business, orpublic administration, economics, finance, marketing or related field required;Masters Degree preferred. Seven (7) years related experience required, andthree (3) years management/supervisory experience preferred. Thepreferred candidate will have significant experience developing and managingmarketing programs, site assessments, project development and corporaterelations. Candidates should have a comprehensive understanding of localgovernment as it applies to economic development and advanced skills inmarketing, communications, program implementation and problem solving. SCEDS(SC Economic Developer’s School) certificate desired.
