Financial Analyst – Energy
As our Financial Analyst – Energy, you will perform skilled research and analysis of energy market data, billing data and utility rate tariffs to deliver energy management decision support services to clients. You will deliver energy management decision support services by combining and leveraging three core skill sets: financial modeling, energy analysis and technical skill.
The essential function is to synthesize energy market information to develop an analytical framework within which clients are equipped to make informed energy management decisions. This includes retrieving economic data related to usage patterns and utility pricing and then formulating this information into cohesive financial models and databases used as frameworks for energy management decisions. This also includes assisting clients with budgeting tools, budget preparation and forecasting, variance analysis and client ad hoc requests. The Business Analyst is responsible for the following:
Commodity Analysis:
· Develop and maintain DARLincT database by researching and unbundling rate tariff components in markets on monthly basis to capture unbundled regulated rate library for Direct Access (DA) markets by utility company
· Deliver Savings Calculators, which will provide savings estimates against benchmark over course of contract, to internal clients used in support of commodity sourcing decisions
· Deliver validation reports to measure actual value of Commodity Contract over regular time intervals
· Develop rate comparisons (site to site; city to city; regulated to deregulated, etc.)
· Conduct research of nationwide utilities to develop information concerning policies, rates, charges and utility management
· Thorough understanding of the theory, methods, practices and procedures of utility rate calculations for use in interpreting client utility invoices, while monitoring and tracking relevant rate components for benchmarking commodity deals
Budgeting and Forecasting:
· Develop forecast estimates of utility pricing, with varying granularity, using statistical techniques and knowledge of fundamental market drivers of national energy landscape, while documenting research resources and communicating findings to clients
· Teams with other analysts to assist with budget services, including developing rate forecasts, measuring variances between actual numbers and forecast estimates and supplying budget numbers at varying degrees of granularity
· Deliver Market Reports, which are summaries of findings from Market Research and Analysis that assess overall energy market landscape and provide guidance to energy managers
Research and Analysis
· Develop ad hoc analyses of impacts to energy spend as result of changes in rates and/or usage patterns
· Develop/retrieve economic data related to usage patterns to assess impact to client energy program
· Use of application software (such as Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) to perform any necessary manipulations of retrieved data
· Retrieving, developing and benchmarking information on customer energy consumption patterns, interpreting such information for the purpose of determining patterns, outlining abnormalities, while facilitating resolution of client issues with utility companies
· Retrieve and interpret customer data from utility billing system, associated databases or customer's hard copy utility bills
Process
· Document Procedures related to work delivered
· Serve as subject matter expert and participate in business process re-engineering to improve quality of deliverables from Coleman Hines
· Mentor and train new staff
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferably in technical discipline such as Math, Engineering, Economics, Finance or related field along with minimum 2 years energy industry knowledge or equivalent combination of experience, education and training related to the essential duties. Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer, including an expert Level in Excel (VBA, Macros, Pivot Tables, etc.) and an Intermediate Level in Access (VBA, SQL queries, etc.). The successful individual will possess the following skills, attributes, experience and knowledge:

· Excellent analytical ability, with thorough attention to detail and business research ability
· Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts
· Ability to perform a variety of assignments under changing conditions, within time constraints
· Ability to prioritize and organize workload
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral contexts
· Team Player - ability to function well in teams
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
· Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools such as Crystal Reports or Cognos
· Knowledge of Database Design concepts and best practices
· Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
· Master's degree
