HR & Operations Supervisor

Responsible to assist in the management of the day to day operational functions of the Single Source 1 department.  Oversees HR/Benefits Administrators and HR Assistants to ensure consistent and efficient practices are in place to service our clients.  Collaborates with Single Source 1 Manager and the management team regarding operational and managerial issues.

 Evaluates work processes to determine strategies and programs that provide greater productivity and efficiency of department functions.  Documents processes and procedures to reduce errors and omissions exposure, to prepare for new hire training, and ensure consistency of practices. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; employee development; and providing guidance and support in managing client accounts. Monitors staff capacity to effectively service existing and new business clients.  Makes recommendations to Manager regarding staffing strategy. Facilitates physical transition of employee relocations, placement of new hires and space management of files. Evaluates effectiveness of internal systems (HRBA, S: drive and Call Tracking) and makes recommendations on utility and development that may be required. Assists HR/Benefits Administrators and HR Assistants with escalated client issues.  Researches possible procedure errors and makes recommendations for improvement. Works closely with other department supervisors and managers within Mercer Administration.  Corresponds across departments to resolve issues or obtain information. Produces scheduled reports and communicates with Manager timely.  Generates ad hoc reports as requested from various sources. Ensures proper resources and systems are utilized for research, documentation or informational purposes. Assists with projects as assigned by management.
This position is located in Iowa City, Iowa. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or experience:  Bachelor of Arts/Sciences in Business or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Previous supervisory experience and strong interpersonal skills necessary.  PC proficiency, especially MS Word and Excel preferred.  Prior experience with HRIS systems helpful. Working knowledge of various aspects of Human Resources desired, including, but not limited to, group employee benefits, payroll administration, employee relations, legal compliance and regulations.   PHR or SPHR certification desired. Ability to qualify and obtain the Professional Human Resource or Sr. Professional Human Resource designation exam within first six months required.   To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Ability to coach and lead a team of professionals. Solid presentation and superior interpersonal communications skills, both written and verbal, required.  Must have ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, possess strong decision making skills, deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, manage difficult situations professionally, and respond to internal and external client needs promptly.  Approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, and follow through on commitments.  Present self with professionalism, polish and skill.  Demonstrate attention to detail and practice principles of confidentiality.   Incumbent must have the flexibility to travel as business necessitates.
