IT Coordinator

The focus of this position is to be the business liaison between Schnitzer's Metals Recycling Business (MRB) division and INformation Technology.  MRB has over 30 sites on the West and East coasts, which generated over $1.8B in revenue in fiscal year 2007.  IT activities are supported by a combination of local IT coordinators in those regions and the corporate IT department in Portland, RO.

The MRB IT Coordinator is the first line of communication with the business executives within MRB, and the first point of escalation for our 12 sites on the West coast.  The coordinator is also the primary liaison between corporate IT and the regional IT coordinators.  The role services MRB by providing a "navigator" through processes most employees infrequently use.

An equally important function of the role is to provide corporate IT with a connection to the MRB division across the breadth of its operating units.  Through its dual reporting relationship the role helps IT plan for activities within the division like acquisitions and new business needs.

 

Internal Control Responsibilities:

Ongoing involvement in the design, assessment, implementation, communication and monitoring of the organization's internal controls in accordance with regulations and laws.

Maintain policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations, maintaining adequate internal controls.  Ensure internal controls are adhered to and kept up to date.  Encourage the reporting of any cotnrol violations.  Maintain current knowledge of internal control changes and be involved with refinement of the internal control process as necessary.  Strive for continuous improvement within the operations.  Challenge conventional thinking in order to obtain the most efficient solutions to issues.  Utilize best practices, benchmarks and metrics to improve organization.

Support Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures and controls to better match the business.  Maintain compliance to Sarbanes-Oxley processes including system development life cycle, segregation of duties reviews, and IT procurement policies.

Communicate upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations.

Job Scope:

This position operates within established parameters and requires assisting in development, training, implementation and review of the division's compliance program.  Responsibilities include assiting in development and enhancement of specific procedures, as well as, training, implementation and review of the enhanced processes and procedures to improve the division's overall compliance efforts.

Essential Functions:Ability to guide the divisions' operations employees through the IT processes which they have only infrequent exposure to.  This includes small project chartering, execution and production system deployments, as well as simply explaining "IT" to our employees who are experts in recycling metal, not IT.For our West coast region, provide a single point of escalation for issues originating at the helpdesk or elsewhere which may require a more holistic solution.  Work with technical experts to develop and deploy these solutions.For our Northeast and Southeast regions, assist regional IT staff with coordinating corporate IT activities for non day-to-day activities like acquisitions, site reconfigurations, and application requirements.For smaller (
