Insurance Follow Up and Billing Representative

 

POSITION TITLE:  INSURANCE FOLLOW UP REPRESENTATIVE

WORK HOURS:  8:30 – 5:00

 

POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for pursuing collection on all claims until payment is received an efficient and timely manner.  Position also performs other duties associated with the billing and insurance follow up process.

 

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

Follow up on unpaid insurance claims in a timely manner

 

Contact appropriate insurance carriers by telephone to determine reason for non payment.

 

Secures needed medical documentation required or requested by third party insurance carriers.

 

Determine errors causing denial of claims; correct the information and resubmit claim to insurance carrier

 

Utilize insurance carrier internet websites for researching patient benefit eligibility and status of claim

 

Keeps updated on all third party billing requirements and changes for insurance types within their area of responsibility.

 

Maintain and respect the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with insurance collection guidelines and corporate policy and procedure

 

Performs other related duties as required

 

Serves as back up to other departmental personnel when the demands of the organization require additional staffing.

  PERSONAL SKILLS, APTITUDES AND QUALITIES

Considerable knowledge of hospital credit and collection practices and considerable knowledge of all third party billing requirements. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships colleagues, patients and third party insurance personnel.  Basic accounting and medical terminology.  Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to be seated up to eight (8) hours a day. 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of high school or equivalency.  Knowledge of CPT and ICD coding is helpful.  Two years of related experience in billing of third party insurance for hospital and physician services required.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
