Brief Description:

Oliver Wyman Consulting, a leader in providing strategy consulting services has a select few openings for Lean Consultants in the Troy, Michigan office.   The Lean Consultant is charged with providing hands-on research and analysis support for Oliver Wyman projects in the process improvement arena.  This fast-paced position offers excellent opportunity for professional advancement.  This position reports directly to Senior Consultants or Partners, and requires extensive travel (80%) and may require long hours.

 

Responsibilities:Assessing manufacturing operations to identify strengths and opportunities in labor productivity, quality, safety, and operating costs.Hands-on collaboration with clients to implement Lean manufacturing principles on the shop-floor (training, workshops, problem solving, etc).Building comprehensive models and simulations to analyze production and business process situations.Developing presentations for assessment findings, client training and workshops.Communicating progress through written updates and visual presentations.Providing support to the partner group in business development activities.

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have These Skills and Competencies:A strong academic history, with a bachelors or masters degree in one of the following:  Industrial Engineering, Business or related field. 5-8 years of relevant manufacturing/operations experience with a major firm. Minimum 4 years experience in a leadership role with full P&L responsibility.Minimum 2 years experience as a business consultant. Education in the fundamentals of Lean and the Toyota Production System as well as strong business acumen; Six Sigma certification is a bonus.Excellent interpersonal communications with ability to influence at all levels of an organization. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.A polished, mature business presence with strong organizational skills. Strong project management skills and demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams. Flexible to assume project member or project lead based on company needs. Entrepreneurial spirit with high personal initiative; self directed. Must be willing and able to travel extensively.

 

Desirable Experiences:Experience interfacing with shop floor managers and learning difficult production/transactional processes.Application of the principles of lean manufacturing and hands-on application on the shop floor.Experienced in leading and conducting focused Kaizen events to reduce lead times, manufacturing costs and/or improve quality.Familiar with the concepts of Value Stream Mapping and how to translate into sustainable shop floor improvements. Experience with a firm that is a recognized leader in process improvement.Foreign language skills a plus to support European and Asian-based clients.
