Linux Architect / Engineer

Our well-known client is in need of a Linux Architect / Engineer. This person will be the Senior technical lead for all Linux systems implementation and support for an enterprise Linux infrastructure. Will develop and certify all Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system configurations, establish Linux implementation policies and guidelines for integration of systems across multiple server platforms and applications, and lead all technical support activities associated with the enterprise Linux servers and components. 

 

Responsibilities: Responsible for all RHEL designs, builds, and technical reviews of server hardware, database integration, and application implementations operating on Linux platforms within the enterprise. Documenting all RHEL solutions, migrating solutions from development and test to production, and serving as the lead subject matter expert for all technical support issues. Provide Tier-3 (advanced) support for all RHEL maintenance and technical issues. Conduct Linux OS configuration and tuning for optimal performance of operating system, database, and application performance. Provide project and team leadership in support of RHEL systems and components (drivers, middleware apps, storage arrays (SAN), etc) for all application and database test/development. Provide system and component management for all RHEL servers and hosts in the enterprise. Plan and document disaster recovery policies and procedures for all RHEL servers and hosts. Coordinate and implement project work plans for all RHEL operating system builds, tests, upgrades, and maintenance activities. Designing, implementing, and supporting RHEL infrastructures and systems across a diverse enterprise environment that consists of deployments in multiple data centers in geographically diverse locations. Perform complex technical systems analyses and reviews, requiring the individual to exercise a high degree of autonomy and independence. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff members of the Linux Support Services team, which shall include the Linux Administrator and Senior Linux Administrator positions. Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to other IT professionals. The position shall serve in an advisory capacity to other IT staff on issues relating to Linux system operations and performances, best practices, and security recommendations.

 

Requirements: B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field 10 years of progressive experience in Unix System Administration, with a minimum of 5 years of specific Red Hat Linux (RHEL) experience. Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) required; Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA) desirable. Strong background in Linux Shell Scripting, JAV and C/C++ programming Experience with Linux/Unix OS tuning and subsystem analysis Ability to work in a development team environment Proven job experience in project management or supervisory role Demonstrated  written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office application suite, including MS Project.
