Manager - Business Solution Center Training Programs
AGENCY DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Small Business Services makes it easier for companies in New York City to form, do business and grow by providing direct assistance to business owners, fostering neighborhood development in commercial districts, promoting financial and economic opportunity among minority- and women-owned businesses, preparing New Yorkers for jobs and linking employers with a skilled and qualified workforce.
Since its creation three years ago, NYC Business Solutions has been at the forefront of the Mayor’s commitment to start and grow New York City’s small business, providing small businesses owners and entrepreneurs the ability to access government services by phone, Internet, or in person at NYC Business Solutions Centers located in business districts throughout the five boroughs. NYC Business Solutions provides a full suite of services to customers including help with accessing financing and government incentives, navigating government permitting and regulations, recruiting and training workers, and business planning. Together, these channels and services are intended to provide customers with easy access points to a single, customer-friendly system.
As NYC Business Solutions matures, the system is at a crossroads and SBS will be required to establish and execute a strategy to serve more customers more effectively, manage growth, expand the impact of services, improve the accessibility and usability of services, identify and provide new services, develop goals and standards for service delivery, and measure success.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The responsibilities of the Manager of Business Solution Center Training Programs are managerial, analytical and operational. The Manager of Business Solution Center Training Programs will perform the following functions:
Strategy and Management:
• Assist in developing a model for curriculum development, workshop deployment, evaluation and support that meets customer needs, supports Business Solutions service strategies and leverages contracted agency and SBS staff efficiently.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures and operational practices to support revised model
• Identify areas for new product development, based on market gaps, client demand, emerging business issues or practices.
Operations:
• Provide operational oversight and logistical support to SBS-sponsored workshops in the Business Solutions Centers (develop training calendar, select, supervise and evaluate instructors, select and manage consultants for curriculum development, translation, etc.)
Marketing and Outreach:
• Develop and implement a low-cost, high-impact marketing and outreach strategy for Business Solutions workshops, with the goal of increasing workshop enrollment and engagement with the Business Solutions Center
Data Collection, Research and Analysis:
• Gather data to inform the strategy and improve the operations of Business Solutions Curriculum with the goals of: better serving business, better allocating departmental resources, developing more efficient processes and identifying areas for system improvement and growth
• Compile and analyze data to fulfill funder requirements, track progress against outcomes and to determine proper allocation and utilization of resources.
• Analyze customer satisfaction data to determine effectiveness of workshop curriculum, materials and delivery.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Experience developing or providing educational and/or training programs for a business or professional audience
• Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills
• Experience in project planning and/or program design and implementation
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook.
Familiarity with Visio or Adobe Acrobat preferred.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in "1" above.
