Location: Washington, DCYour location:home   »  find a job   »  advanced search   »  job description Apply Online Send this Job to a Friend POSITION SUMMARY:The IT Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the corporate IT environment and provide daily technical assistance, support, and advice to maintain hardware, software, and systems in a reliable, flexible and secure manner. The IT Engineer will support the corporate local-area network (LAN) and remote sites, all currently located in the Washington DC area. S/he will install and maintain network hardware and software, analyze problems, and monitor the network to ensure its availability to users. The IT Engineer will also troubleshoot problems reported by users make recommendations for enhancements to the network or investments in new server equipment. The IT Engineer will be responsible for the daily/weekly backup of network data and restoring data when required. The IT Engineer may plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures including patch management and virus protection. The IT Engineer will also fully document the current IT environment and maintain that documentation to reflect changes as they are implemented. Local travel within the Washington D.C. metropolitan area required.The IT Engineer will answer helpdesk requests, analyze problems by using automated diagnostic programs, resolve problems, track requests and identify reoccurring issues and address. The IT Engineer will support the company’s monitors, keyboards, printers, and mice, and install, modify, clean, and maintain computer hardware and software. The engineer will maintain a current inventory of the corporate IT assets and ensure proper licensing of all hardware and software supported on the computers. The IT Engineer will be required to create reports to the status of the IT infrastructure. The IT Engineer also may train users in how to use new computer hardware and software.QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience:  Work requires a minimum of five years experience with network administration and computer operations and has practical experience with a variety of software, hardware, and software applications. Experience with cyber security tools and techniques are a plus. Skills:  Strong understanding of a MS network environment including MS Exchange; Installing and maintaining network hardware and software including cyber security; Experience with Cisco networking equipment including routers, firewalls and switches; Experience with network backup utilities and functionality; Ability to develop and document Standard Operating Procedures and Policies; Using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines and procedures; Applying customer service techniques; Troubleshooting problems with Microsoft applications; Using desktop and laptop computers (Dell, HP, PowerEdge, Proliant) and peripheral equipment (i.e. printers, scanners, fax, etc.); Instructing users on new or upgraded computer applications, hardware and software; Organizing work, setting priorities and meeting critical time deadlines; and Strong written and verbal communication skills required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
