Nondestructive Test Engineer

Description:  The incumbent plans, designs, coordinates, executes, monitors, evaluates and reports on the nondestructive testing of military weapon systems and equipment. He or she will incorporate state-of-the-art technology that sometimes requires deviation from established test procedures and the development of new testing procedures and instrumentation systems. Incumbent may be assigned independent responsibility for a project having the characteristics described above; serve as project engineer on a major, complex system that is part of a high visibility, high cost program. May lead a team of two or three lower grade engineers and technicians on a project involving substantial deviation from established test procedures and/or development of new instrumentation systems. Exercises technical direction over subordinate engineering, technical test support, and other supporting personnel in actual conduct of tests in the field or under simulated conditions. Makes assignments, reviews work, and provides instructions to such personnel relating to their function with respect to the particular test project. Utilize familiarity with the equipment, concepts, practices, and procedures of physical testing. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Supervise lower level engineers. Skills:  Pay Rate: NegotiableMandatory Qualifications:Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical, Material, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. Must have three to five years experience in metals processing and characterization. Must have working knowledge of nondestructive methods such as eddy current testing, liquid penetrant testing, visual testing, ultrasonic testing, x-ray, and mechanical measurements required. Must have the ability to supervisor lower level engineers. Must posses a Valid Driver's License. Must have the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance within 18 months of hire. Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditionsDesired Qualifications:Familiarity with the equipment, concepts, practices, and procedures of physical testing.
