SOFTWARE DEVELOPER
This position is a direct hire/permanent position with one of our clients in the
East Pittsburgh area.
General Summary:
Reviews, analyzes, designs and modifies software systems including encoding, testing, debugging and documenting programs. Requires a bachelor's or master’s degree. Requires 4-10 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. May report directly to a project lead or manager. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Primary Duties:
· Develop software with the guidance of an assigned supervisor or project lead or alternately lead and direct the work of others as assigned. Development activities include reviewing, analyzing, designing, encoding, modifying, testing, debugging and documenting software applications.
· Develop all software in accordance with company wide standards on software development and quality. Author internal “application maintenance” level documentation, requirements and specifications. This documentation would be used to formally describe (via text and/or graphical representations), critical aspects of the application from a developer’s stand-point, e.g. application data structures, inter-module or inter-application dependencies, directory structure & build process, application installation caveats, etc.
· Author and maintain project oriented planning materials (schedules, milestones, release notes, etc.)
· Develop supplemental product support software and materials as needed (example programs, tutorials, sample experiments, etc.). Proof and edit such materials.
· Gain and apply problem domain knowledge for assigned projects.
· Utilize independent research, professional journals, newsletters, and reference books in order to keep informed of emerging technologies as they apply to company products and software development methodologies.
· Independently track “short-term” project task lists in order to provide brief summary progress reports upon request of assigned supervisor.
· Act as a resource for the technical consulting staff.
Requirements:
· 4-10 years professional experience
· Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent required
· Microsoft Visual Studio and at least one of the following languages or application frameworks (C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, C/C++, Microsoft Foundation Classes, VB);
· Strong desire to develop apps for the Windows OS (MS Certification preferred).
· DirectX or game developer experience a plus.
· MCAD and/or MCSD certifications and applied knowledge and experience preferred
· Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Windows platform, software development methodologies, and Microsoft software development tools
· Must demonstrate proficient and proactive verbal and written communications skills when interacting and/or directing assigned staff.
