Small Business Advisor - Contract - part time to full time

Women’s Venture Fund (WVF) is a not-for-profit organization that provides training and financial services for an underserved population of entrepreneurial women in the five boroughs of New York City.  To increase the overall number of minority women entrepreneurs, we are committed to developing entrepreneurial women through training programs and to supporting their efforts with credit and mentoring services.

 

Function and overall responsibilities of the Small Business Advisor:

The function of the Small Business Advisor is to assist clients in understanding how to grow their business and the proper use of credit. The role of the Small Business Advisor is to nurture and grow aspiring entrepreneurial women from under-served urban communities.  To accomplish this, the Advisor will provide a financial analysis on client businesses to determine their credit worthiness; write up recommendations for loans based on business review; advise client on process; conduct training sessions on business issues; assist with business plan development; and assist with the post loan follow-up as may be required to assure seamless integration of lending and training components of our program.

 

The primary function of the Small Business Advisor is to assure the client’s success focusing on business development issues, business plans and a well-developed curriculum delivered through an experientially based methodology.  To accomplish this, the Small Business Advisor will develop, implement, and evaluate the training and counseling program for clients.  Evaluation of the training and counseling program will be conducted on a periodic basis.  The Small Business Advisor will develop and continually refine a system of evaluation that effectively measures the progress of the entrepreneur participating in WVF programs.  

 

The Small Business Advisor will report to the Program Manager and Company President on the status of the client process.  This is a Part Time Flexible schedule position with the potential to convert to full time as you develop your portfolio of clients.  Self motivation and ability to self direct is required for success.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Provide technical assistance and counseling for clients seeking loans with either WVF or a commercial lender.

·         Assess client’s business development goals and determine their counseling needs

·         Assist with presentations about WVF to community groups as needed.

·         Update and develop experientially based curriculum.

·         Work collaboratively in team efforts to promote programs and serve clients;

·         Be flexible and creative in addressing needs of clients and supporting program goals.

·         Review business plans and assist clients with modification as necessary

 

 

Qualification Requirements for Small Business Advisor:Excellent communication and presentation skills;Excellent writing and financial analysis skills;Demonstrated expertise in financial statement analysis;Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of business plan developmentTwo years working in a job related function or where skills are easily transferable to the functions of Small Business Advisor;Fluency in Spanish is required;

·    Computer literacy: Microsoft Office Suite Professional
