JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a Systems Administrator I in our Technical Customer Support department to work in our Walnut Creek, CA office. The Systems Administrator I monitors, upgrades, troubleshoots and maintains networks and production & development servers of various platforms for a 24 hour, global network operations center, critical to the ongoing company operations. He/She provides day to day support, completing maintenance/service requests, server backup and archival, system & network monitoring/reporting and scheduled job processing/report distribution. The incumbent makes decisions on routine to moderately complex issues, within existing guidelines, policies and procedures and latitude to determine methods to accomplish results. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Monitors production & development servers/networks of various platforms and technologies such as, AS/400, UNIX, Intel, LAN/WAN, on a global basis. Provides assistance to customers with hardware network or processing problems, analyzes and resolves issues. Through ongoing monitoring, identifies and resolves many problems before being encountered by or affecting end users.
2. Performs level-1 troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose technical issues. Resolves issues/problems, provides project coordination/management to ensure issue is resolved. Escalates more complex problems to the level II System Administrator.
3. Independently coordinates moderately complex system deployments, including installation and configuration of hardware, running cable, loading operating system software and/or patches, running tests and diagnostics to ensure successful implementation. Prepares documentation to record the deployment process steps and outcome.
4. Performs nightly backups of all servers, ensuring data integrity and completeness of backups. Keeps catalogs of all backup media, to facilitate rapid restoration of libraries, programs and files according to company policies and procedures.
5. Maintains department record-keeping including, but not limited to: system configuration, operating system, licensed program products, commercial off-the shelf (COTS)/third party software, media library/catalog, and production job documentation.
6. Logs and monitors Software Change Requests (SCR’s) processed by data center.
7. Keeps abreast of new technologies in the computer networks operations field by periodically attending seminars and/or training courses.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Knowledge & Skills: 1. Working knowledge of OS/400, AS/400, UNIX and Microsoft server or similar operating system software. Primary skill needed = UNIX; Secondary skills = Windows, AS400
2. General knowledge of networking topologies including firewalls, switches and routers.
3. Good communication and documentation skills.
4. High level customer service focus to effectively deal with customers and resolve issues in a timely manner.
5. Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
6. Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
7. Ability to master new/existing processes with minimal assistance.

Education & Experience:
Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a high school diploma/GED and technical trade school courses or appropriate certification with 2-3 years related experience. Must have 2-3 years experience with OS/400 or similar operating system software. Must have 1-3 years experience maintaining a UNIX server environment, or possess current UNIX certification. Must have 1-3 years experience maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server environment, or possess current Microsoft Windows Server certification. Must have 1-3 years experience with network troubleshooting, or possess current CompTIA Network+ certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Required to work in a data center environment with moderate noise and cool temperatures.
2. Some lifting of hardware of 10 or more pounds, reaching overhead and crawling into tight spaces to install cable required.
3. Some work required on weekends and/or holidays.
SHIFT Tueday - Saturday, Day Shift 8:00 - 5:00
