The Tax Processing Staff is responsible for assembly of tax returns, performing engagement-related tasks, tracking the status of engagements, storage of engagement information and other related support activities within an Ernst & Young office/department or area. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to scanning, logging, and copying, assembling and distributing tax returns in accordance with established guidelines.Responsibilities Work Flow Management Provide practice-focused support for assembly of tax returns, performing engagement-related tasks, tracking the status of engagements, storage of engagement information, and other related support activities.Understands and follows general knowledge of tax return process (e.g. IRS due dates, various tax forms) and other related practice specific policies.Self-assures own work for completeness and accuracy.Reviews submitted returns and instruction sheets for completeness/accuracy prior to processing returns.Effectively scans tax returns and other miscellaneous client related documents into the Electronic Compliance File (ECF); coordinates the delivery of assembled tax returns to tax professionals for shipment to client.Accurately log, copy, assemble and distribute tax returns in accordance with Tax Processing/Assemble guidelines established by the Tax practice and appropriate Enterprise Support Services (ESS) leadership.Maintain and update assembly log in compliance with office/area procedures.May spot check work of other assemblers for completeness and accuracy; updates and monitors electronic assembly log to ensure delivery deadlines are met and to monitor production volumes.May assist with monitoring overall department production and productivity, (including during workload peaks and valleys); assigns, delegates and prioritizes work as appropriate.May assist in the training of temporary/seasonal staff on tax processing procedures and knowledge.Technology/Knowledge/Information Management Work with firm standard technology equipment and other relevant practice or engagement specific software applications.Knows how to access firm knowledge and other relevant business information tools and knowledge databases.Performs and filters basic research.Effectively monitors maintenance of tax processing equipment (e.g. copier/scanner, desk scanner, fax machine and tax report processing printer) and appropriately escalates problems as needed.Routinely maintains/updates tax processing file of templates.Utilizes functional expertise and applies knowledge in support of Ernst & Young values, clients, products and services in completing work assignments.Performs other compliance-related tasks as needed (e.g., eStorage, EY Organizers, populate database, other delegated engagement tasks).Ability to become proficient in the use of specialty software or engagement/practice specific tools and applications.Office/Firm Knowledge Utilizes key internal contacts to answer questions, resolve issues and provide quality services.Adds value through understanding the work processes and resources, structure and business of the firm, practice, functional group or industry.Seeks opportunities to understand customer's work processes and needs to provide more efficient service.Participates in initiatives to improve processes within own office or area.Actively participates in sharing tax processing-related knowledge with colleagues within own office or area.Keeps abreast of changes in organizational structure, methodology and office procedures.Leverages relationships with key internal clients and is recognized as a resource.To qualify, candidates must have:a high school diploma; or equivalent work experience approximately 1-2 years of related work experience; experience with tax returns a plus Adobe PDF and database useage/knowledge a plus must be able to to work overtime must be a teamplayer ability to provide back-up support to other areas as neededCA-San Francisco
