JOB OVERVIEW: As a member of Seadrift Analytical Resources (SAR), this position exists to provide analytical support for those businesses located at the Seadrift Site and the eight laboratories that support them.  This position will use process / chemical / analytical knowledge, in-depth technical expertise and (plant) operations experience to assist in the identification and development of optimum analytical technology, and to take an active role in its implementation, in support of process and product performance.  In close cooperation with other appropriate technical resources, this position will assist in the selection and application of analytical technology and systems to improve process reliability and product quality in order to create value for those global businesses with plants located at the Seadrift Site.This position will follow Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and Operating Discipline / Quality Systems procedures and practices.This position will provide technical expertise for: · Analytical technology and information regarding process chemistry.· Product composition and properties.· Problem troubleshooting and prevention. · Root cause or failure analysis.· Assist in the identification and development of Most Effective Technology (MET), and implementing MET.This position will:· Develop response plans for non-routine requests, taking into account the value creation potential and considering a wide range of technical options. · Schedule and / or perform complicated analyses. · Evaluate validity of data, apply statistics, interpret results and take appropriate action in close cooperation with other functions and organizations. · Document, communicate and archive results. · Train and coach others on analytical systems and technology. · Network with other technical people to share analytical process and product technology and leverage problem solving and problem prevention expertise. · Work with other roles to improve manufacturing processes, products and analytical systems, concerning value generation potential, performance and reliability. As a member of Seadrift Analytical Resources, this position will actively participate on empowered teams consisting of other SAR team members, taking facilitative and leadership roles as appropriate.Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry is required. This position requires the ability to manage several concurrent tasks and priorities with little direct supervision.  Work during off-hours and weekends is sometimes required in order to provide the analytical support required by the plants and associated laboratories.  Although work during off-hours and weekends does not occur often, this support activity is a critical aspect of this position.  There is little travel required for this position. GOALS/COMPETENCIES: Typical goals for this position would include:· Support Site and Team EH&S goals and initiatives.· Serve on and actively support empowered teams and their goals.· Submit and implement a personal cost savings suggestion.· Become involved in at least one community outreach activity.· Have at least one goal associated with Six Sigma activities.INITIATIVE: · Proactively moves issues and problems forward to achieve results. · Improves project/team efficiency and performance by clearly defining and analyzing problems and implementing new ways of approaching work. · Identifies the costs and benefits associated with opportunities and plans ahead to avoid or minimize cost and maximize benefits. · Works independently to produce quality results. · Proactively communicates new methods of working efficiently to work group. VALUE CREATION:· Add value by prioritizing work that contributes to the successful execution of strategies and plans. · Compares costs, benefits, obstacles and rewards when making decisions and setting priorities. · Proactively identifies and acts on opportunities, (including process improvement, cost reduction) that could create value in the future. · Identifies and integrates information from other parts of the company (businesses, technologies) to create additional value in own work.  LEARNING:· Maximizes strengths and identifies and implements needed improvements in personal knowledge, skills and behaviors. · Anticipates what competencies will be needed in the future and develops them. · Proactively seeks opportunities to share personal knowledge within and outside of own work group.  INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS:· Proactively seeks to understand others to resolve issues and to achieve results. · Works through resistance and objections by providing alternatives that address concerns and incorporate input and suggestions. · Tailors communication to the needs of audiences. · Listens to and considers others perspectives, needs, concerns and input when addressing critical issues.· Alerts others who are affected by his/her work when or before problems arise. LEADERSHIP:· Identifies and communicates ideas about future application of projects beyond current scope.· Identifies opportunities that grow out of change; maintains productivity during times of change.· Prioritizes projects and works on those which have the greatest value impact to the department.· Gathers input and gains consensus when making decisions. INNOVATION:· Implements ideas or concepts into new, practical and value-added activities, tasks or initiatives.· Makes original contributions to area of expertise, and other areas as appropriate. TEAMWORK:· Builds consensus and alignment around key objectives for the work group or project team.· Proactively offers viewpoints and recommendations to the team.· Develops specific plans to ensure achievement of team goals.· Shares responsibility for the direction of the team.· Actively works to establish strong team relationships that help improve efficiency and effectiveness. TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:· Knowledgeable in assigned area and develops expertise in a certain field, tool or theory.
