Compounding Engineer

Doherty Career Solutions has partnered with a leading producer of polymer solutions in search of a Compounding Engineer to work in their Parkersburg, WV manufacturing facility. The Compounding Engineer will be responsible for new product and process development and support of the Compounding Unit.

Responsibilities:

1.       Support execution of new product test runs and/or process studies within the commercial compounding unit.

2.       Work with R&D and test run coordinator to commercialize grades, including setting specifications according to customer needs and process capability using statistical methodologies.

3.       Provide technical support for the design of new compounding process equipment.

4.       Lead capital projects from conceptual engineering through construction, start-up and commissioning.

5.       Provide daily support for compounding unit process optimization, and ensure process safety for operation of the unit.

6.       Optimize product grade transitions using lean methodologies, and ensure quality and yield of compounds to world class standards.

7.       Identify reliability gaps and develop solutions along with other technical resources in plant.

Requirements:

1.       BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required.

2.       5+ years of experience in process engineering or production engineering in a compounding operation.

3.       Possess a strong technical background with compounding operations, particularly Farrell Continuous Mixers, Twin Screw Extruders, and Single Screw Extruders.

4.       Project management experience for multiple small capital projects or a single project up to $5MM.

5.       Ability to frame up, prioritize, and execute process improvements according to value, cost and risk with limited supervision.

6.       Experience working with employees at all levels of the business, including operating technicians, support staff, R&D engineers, and sales personnel.
