Position Description:
JOB SUMMARY:Manages employees involved in all phases of industrial labpack projects or on-site management projects, including collection from government properties, small quantity generators and medical laboratories. Directly supervises employees on specified projects by performing the following duties:PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs and procedures for packaging, treating, storing, transporting, and disposing of waste including hazardous, TSCA (PCB and Asbestos), special and radioactive.* Assists with the development, implementation and maintenance of a hazardous communications program designed to protect the employees and environment.* Surveys client’s industries to determine type and magnitude of disposal problem.* Oversees the identification of waste material and determination of potential disposition.* Supervises the completion of waste inventory and classification in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and company procedures.* Supervises the sampling and packaging of hazardous waste materials for transportation and ensures compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations and company procedures.* Oversees the preparation of Hazardous Waste Manifests, Generator Waste Profiles, Land Disposal Notification forms and any other necessary regulatory paperwork.* Approves the acquisition of supplies, materials, equipment and labor to complete projects.* Audits client’s facilities to determine corrective action for treatment, storage and/or disposal of hazardous waste.* Assesses available hazardous waste treatment and disposal alternatives, including costs involved, to compare economic impact of alternative methods.* Assists in developing comprehensive spill prevention programs and reviews facility plans for spill prevention.* Prepares reports of findings concerning spills and prepares material for use in legal actions.* Answers inquiries and prepares informational literature to provide technical assistance to clients.* Provides technical assistance in event of hazardous chemical spill, and identifies pollutant, determines hazardous impact, and recommends corrective action.* Maintains working knowledge of new technologies developed by the industry and government regulators.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:* Manages subordinate supervisor in Customer Site Services. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. May also directly supervise non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.SCOPE: * Number of Reports: -- Direct________ -- Indirect_______MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE: • Productivity• Cost Effectiveness• Efficiency• SafetyEDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:* Bachelor’s Degree with preferable emphasis in Chemistry and/or Business* 40 hours HAZWOPPER training* Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE:* Minimum of three years supervisory experience.* Minimum of five years in hazardous waste industry with emphasis in labpacking and emergency response activities.DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* Ability to maximize cost efficiency and maintain budgetary standards* Good analytical and problem solving skills* Good communication and leadership skills* Experience with local, state and federal agencies and regulations* Strong computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Excel and Word* Must have good report writing skills WORKING CONDITIONS:* Must be available to be contacted 24/7 for emergency response and other projects.* Must be available to travel for multiple-day projects in remote locations.
