Job #08-0025 Engineer, Storage – Kansas City, KS
Position Information:
This position leads, coordinates, and performs the analysis, planning, design, petroleum/reservoir engineering, construction, alteration, and/or maintenance of Southern Star’s gas storage facilities, identifying and recommending enhancements; assists in identification and evaluation of storage field prospects and expansions; selects and coordinates storage well testing and work-over contractors and is responsible for compliance with applicable regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
AnalysisAnalyze, monitor, test storage field integrity and performance Analyze storage wells and down-hole performance or integrity issues Design, conduct, analyze well and field deliverability testsDevelop field deliverability curves and maintain records of storage well deliverabilityMonitor well & field performance, provide analysis and recommendations for enhancementsSchedule shut-in tests, analyze data, and calculate inventoriesTrack and report inventory discrepancies
Problem-SolvingDesign well and field deliverability testsDesign well testing program/schedulesDesign workovers for well and down-hole issuesDevelop plans to control/mitigate any potential migration Direct/Prepare reports, specifications, plans, maps, studies and/or designs
Communication
· Serve as liaison to KCC, OCC, EIA & FERC on storage-related permitting, compliance, and correspondence
· Communicate technical requirements, policies, and procedures to impacted internal/external customers
ComplianceEnsure work product complies with all applicable codes, standards, specifications, laws, and requirementsMonitor, analyze, and maintain records to ensure compliance with FERC Operating Plans
PartneringPartner with Gas Management to develop and monitor storage field operating plansProvide reservoir and well-bore engineering servicesAssist in evaluation of storage field prospects and expansionsCoordinate storage field activities with applicable internal/external customers
Budget
· Recommend, plan, justify and develop budgets/timelines for storage field activities and projects
· Monitor, track forecast, provide reports, and manage storage field projects
General Physical and Mental Demands:
Physical Requirements Include:Exposure to chemicals associated with natural gas transmission and storageExposure to outside elementsAbility to travel on regular day trips and some overnight travel by automobile and airplane up to 25% of the timeAbility to effectively and appropriately deal with high levels of stress
Qualifications:
Minimum:
· B.S. Engineering
· Minimum 2 years storage field engineering experience
· Experience providing technical analysis, design, petroleum/reservoir engineering, regulatory compliance, and operational support for storage field operations and maintenance, including storage well testing, work-over equipment and techniques, operating requirements and regulations, and generally-expected company policies and procedures
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Project management experience
· Experience working without direct oversight
· Valid Drivers License
Preferred:
· Petroleum Engineer
· Professional Engineering License
· More than 6 years storage field engineering experience
· Experience supervising personnel on a project basis
