Our broad objectives center on the continual development and improvement of petroleum refining, petrochemical, gas production, energy and chemical production technology.  There is an immediate opening for a Engineering Supervisor - Mechanical Piping & AutoCAD Design within the Process Technology & Equipment Business Unit located in Des Plaines, IL.  The Process Technology & Equipment Business Unit supports the design, fabrication, and installation of modular, skid-mounted, and stand-alone equipment. The position includes both production work and supervision of 4 Detail Designers. Production Accountabilities include:-  Create Piping Plans, Elevations and Perspectives, Piping Isometrics, and Structural Steel Drawings necessary to complete the fabrication of the unit by a contracted fabricator.-  Analyze and recommend solutions to technical problems in the piping design and plant layout area.-  Work effectively with other Designers and Project Team members. Supervisory Accountabilities include:-  Review piping/skid fabrication requirements during the proposal stage for all prospective projects. -  Set technical standards, policies, and procedures in piping design in conjunction with the other Designers-  Assure that lessons learned are communicated through written memos, procedures, tools, and presentations.-  Attendance at internal or external project meetings to represent the piping design group before a piping designer has been selected or for particularly complex and critical projects.-  Monitor Designers to ensure that Piping Design/Plant Layout deliverables are consistently within budgeted cost and schedule at the appropriate level of quality.-  Assure the work of others in the group is checked for technical accuracy and compliance with established guidelines and procedures.  -  Identify needs and opportunities for Piping Design Infrastructure and Productivity improvements.  Provide oversight of agreed to infrastructure projects through implementation.-  Provide coaching and mentoring to piping designers regarding their piping design deliverables.  Advise on technical problems. -  Guide and monitor sub-contracted piping designers.Administrative Accountabilities include:-  Responsible for assignment of all billable piping design work.  This includes planning and prioritizing such that project assignments are optimized.  A schedule to reflect ongoing and planned assignments shall be maintained.-  Regularly reporting on the status of Designer accountabilities.-  Supervise personnel within established budgeted levels.  Recommend adjustments to manpower when peak workloads cannot be handled.-  Assist in staff evaluation which includes but is not limited to feedback to Administrative Manager for mid-year and annual reviews.-  Assist in staff and contractor recruiting. -  Ensure that computer software needed for Design work is maintained. Obtain quotes and make recommendation when updates or new software is required.Basic Qualifications:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.-5+ years Piping/Mechanical/Plant design experience in the Refining and/or Chemical industries.-  Experienced in reading / creating Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).-  Experience with AutoCAD 2004 (or higher).-  3D CAD experience is a requirement.   Additional qualifications:  -  Ability to correctly interpret supplier’s drawings of equipment and apply them to the plant layout.-  Experienced in design of skid mounted process units (includes piping arrangement plans, sections, supports, detailed isometrics and bill of materials).-Experience with AutoPlant/Rebis 3D Plant Design Suite of products preferred.-  Knowledge and experience in using applicable codes and standards such as ASME, ASTM, API, and NACE.-  Experience in a supervisory role preferred.-  Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a flexible, team oriented style.-  Ability to travel 10% both domestic and internationally
