Environmental Engineer at Equistar

This position will provide environmental technical support to plant personnel to ensure facility compliance with  appropriate environmental regulations, permits, and company environmental standards and procedures; and will also serve as the site subject matter expert in the area of environmental management systems.  This position interfaces with Federal, State and Local environmental agency personnel on routine matters and those associated with enforcement actions.  This position may also serve as a company representative in outside activities such as with Community Advisory Panels and with Industry Trade Associations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:   Support the development,  rollout and ongoing maintenance of the enterprise Environmental Management Systems at the site.Assist in the development of environmental systems that ensure compliance and are not person dependent.Generate, review and submit environmental agency reports and correspondence.Acquire and maintain environmental permits.Facilitate root-cause-analysis-based environmental investigations.Participate in compliance auditing.Coordinate environmental procedure compliance and employee trainingRead and interpret environmental regulations, and translate understanding into processes and procedures for plant personnel.

Broad experience in air, water and hazardous waste programs, including RCRA, CAA, CWA and SARA, and the ability to interpret the regulations. 

In addition, deep experience in one or more program areas is preferred. Skilled in managing complex environmental programs. Organized, detail and results oriented, with the ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communicator (both written and oral) with strong interpersonal skills for interaction with all levels of staffing, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills. 

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant environmental experience required, preferably in chemical manufacturing industry


 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:
Bachelors's or advanced degree in engineering, relevant sciences or specific environmental discipline.  Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering preferred.
