Environmental Specialist, EH&S

The Dow Chemical Company is now hiring for an Environmental Specialist at its Freeport, TX location.  The purpose of this role is to provide primarily Environmental (and some Health and Safety) compliance support to its Environmental Operations facility.The compliance support includes the coordination and administration of existing EH&S programs and operating permits; determining the applicability (and non-applicability) of regulatory requirements to each facility; conducting compliance gap analysis and assessments; developing implementation plans to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards; and the implementing of global EH&S management systems and work processes.   The role primarily focuses on EH&S compliance and the candidate will be responsible for the following: Utilizes a Six Sigma methodology approach (if possible) to identify compliance deficiency gaps and ensuring that the most cost effective solutions are developed and are being utilized for gap closure, Consults with Dow’s EH&S Expertise group to obtain clear interpretations of site-specific regulatory process, regulations, laws and associated procedures, Utilizes the necessary work process to effectively deliver the regulatory guidance, required documentation, and training to the appropriate groups, Recognizes and analyzes EH&S risks present in the work environment and assists the Team in the development of programs, procedures and /or work processes to mitigate those risks, Ensures compliance and effective implementation of the various global EH&S management systems, work processes, and data management systems,  Coordinates the development of all applicable Operating Permits (i.e. Air, Water, TSCA, etc) for the various facilities.  This includes coordinating the implementation of the permit requirement and initial sampling / testing requirements,   Serves as the department’s Compliance Task Coordinator,   Participates in missed compliance tasks investigations and the development of corrective actions, Utilizing Dow’s Waste Approval Work Process, conducts reviews and regulatory approvals for new Environmental Operations waste streams.  Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline, Chemistry, or Environmental Chemistry from an accredited college/university is required.  A chemical or environmental engineering background is a plus. At least 3 years of Environmental work experience is preferred. At least 2 years or more experience in a manufacturing plant environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with various Environmental regulations is essential for this role.
