MECHANICAL Engineer
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering as do the other engineers at PESI. The incumbent ensures, through support and coordination with other engineering and design positions, that the Company’s day to day engineering, design, construction management and field services of mechanical equipment is properly and effectively identified, selected, engineered and executed with excellent quality and correctly applied to PESI’s customer satisfaction.
This is accomplished through the incumbent’s mechanical engineering capabilities, team leadership, technical knowledge, hard work and dedication to achieving success. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Engineering, duties and responsibilities include performing engineering tasks, provide technical assistance for equipment selection, prepare plans, drawings and specifications for new facilities and modernization of existing facilities. Assists field operations and other departments as required to ensure compliance with project objectives.
Accountabilities
The incumbent ensures that all mechanical equipment PESI engineers’, designs, selects and installs for client projects are technically correct, properly applied and installed.Assists with changes in mechanical engineering staff and the selection of new mechanical engineers and designers.Develops and reviews the mechanical portions of cost estimates and proposals for new business opportunities to ensure all technology options are carefully thought out, cost data is rigorously checked for substance and accuracy, and documentation is professionally prepared.Continuously monitors the effective and efficient use of proven mechanical related technologies and ensures new technology options are carefully evaluated for application to PESI client’s pipelines and facilities. Answers routine questions arising in the field concerning details set out in engineering drawings or specifications, with respect to construction, design, layout, gradient studies, etc.Prepares operating instructions for various compressor and pump stations, terminal installations, pipeline junctions, etc.Consults with immediate supervisor and others concerned on mechanical problems, proposed installations and preventive maintenance.Promotes general goodwill among employees, supervisors, the public and PESI clients.Performs other related duties as assigned to support other ongoing and proposed PESI projects.Is knowledgeable and stays abreast of new technologies and plans, coordinates and directs activities of the mechanical aspects of PESI projects, including on-site construction and startup troubleshooting tasks.Direct and oversee the preparation of mechanical equipment specifications and assists in the preparation of studies and cost estimates.
Technical Capabilities
· Must have at least 5 – 15 years of experience in the pipeline industry and capable of engineering and designing pipelines and pipeline facilities.
· Must have a strong working knowledge of pipeline codes and regulations such as DOT Parts 192 and 195, ANSI B31.4 and B31.8, Texas Railroad Commission Rules and other related industry standards such as API 1104, API 5L, ASME, ASTM, etc.
·Must have a good knowledge of natural gas, crude oil, refined products, LNG and HVL pipeline facilities.
· Must have strong people skills and have substantial past experience working on project teams as a mechanical engineer.
· Must have significant experience with working in multi-discipline pipeline projects and have a clear understanding of the interrelationship and dependencies between the various engineering and design disciplines.
· Must have good writing and communication skills and be able to present the mechanical aspects of projects to PESI customers.
· Must have significant experience with reviewing and changing design and construction drawings.
· Should be experienced in writing proposals, procedures, specifications, data sheets and standards.
· Must have significant experience with all phases of pipeline and pipeline facility construction tasks and should have spent a substantial amount of time in the field monitoring and inspecting construction activities.
· Prepares bills of materials, purchase requisitions, edits conceptual and construction drawings and maintenance bulletins relating to the mechanical facilities.
· Competent in preparing specifications, developing performance criteria and selection of mechanical equipment such as gas and diesel engines, natural gas compressors, pipeline and facility pumps, air compressors, heat exchangers, storage tanks, meters, valves, filters, scrubbers, separators, cooling towers, glycol dehydration units, vessels, turbines, heaters, and other pipeline facility equipment.
· Develops lay outs, designs and recommends various installations for facilities such as pump stations, compressor stations, meter/regulator stations, manifolds, production facilities and other main line facilities.
· Conducts engineering studies and mathematical calculations on such items as pressure drops, thru-put, horsepower requirements, pump and engine sizes, hydraulic flow studies, etc.
· Conduct field surveys on contemplated requirements and preliminary surveys for proposed new construction projects, evaluate information obtained and prepare cost estimates.
· Prepare and/or review progress drawings and final construction prints and make any revisions necessary.
· Must have very good computer skills and be proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, engineering design models, pipeline hydraulics, pipe and equipment sizing and selection.

Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
