Maintenance Reliability Engineer

Job Objective:
The role of the Maintenance Reliability Engineer is to improve maintenance safety, reliability, productivity, and work quality by providing technical support for the sustained operation of the Argo resins unit. The purpose of the Maintenance Reliability Engineer is to train and support maintenance technicians, minimize spending and downtime through use of prudent preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, and develop solutions to
acute and chronic equipment failures, utilizing external technical expertise when necessary. Additionally, this role will coordinate small capital projects from concept development to completion. The goal of this work will be to positively affect Hexion’s mission of 0 injuries/0 environmental releases, production efficiency/quality, and overall
financial performance.

Essential Functions:
The responsibilities of the Maintenance Reliability Engineer will include:
1. Maintain a daily awareness of the overall condition of equipment and hardware at the Argo site, including:
a. Develop a good working relationship with both Operations and Maintenance and interact daily to monitor unit operation and maintenance status.
b. Monitor maintenance activities for repetitive tasks and initiate work to eliminate the root cause of these items.
c. Diagnose and solve equipment/hardware problems within area of knowledge, requesting external technical expertise when necessary.
d. Track and analyze performance trends specific to reliability improvement programs and practices.
e. Evaluate and analyze cost of equipment maintenance programs and make recommendations to improve cost effectiveness.
2. Support the maintenance technicians with required engineering input for maintenance activities, including:
a. Providing support beyond the knowledge or experience level of the technician, whether it be on procedures, developing problem solutions, or obtaining information sources
b. Writing installation, start-up, and commissioning procedures for new equipment.
c. Training by conducting short courses, one-on-one teaching, or scheduling outside training as appropriate
d. Developing innovations for improved maintenance effectiveness to reduce maintenance costs.


3. Serve as the site mechanical integrity coordinator, including:
a. Lead and facilitate the use of advanced reliability techniques (including Root Cause Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Total Productive Maintenance, and Reliability Centered Maintenance).
b. Develop and maintain the equipment documentation system including the equipment numbering system, equipment files (to include design, history, operating manuals, etc.), equipment bill of materials, and any
other pertinent information.
c. Own the drawing system including accumulation of minor changes and periodically sending the drawings out for updates.
d. Develop and maintain (with the assistance of the Maintenance Planner/ Supervisor) equipment inspection, testing, and maintenance protocols. This will include:
i. Routine PM (preventative maintenance) Optimization
Reviews to ensure that the proper equipment strategies are in place to prevent the premature failure of equipment.
ii. Researching and recommending the use of new PM/PDM (predictive maintenance) technologies and monitoring existing technologies to ensure that the application of these technologies are being fully
utilized and are returning a value to the plant. Such as: laser alignment, oil analysis, IR thermography, NDT, acoustic emission, vibration monitoring, etc.
iii. Developing inspection plans for all equipment including routine visual inspections and non-routine inspections (internal, jurisdictional, code required, etc.).
iv. Ensuring that all PM/PdM tests and equipment inspections
are scheduled/completed within an established time limit.
e. Develop and keep up-to-date an equipment reliability strategy on
all process and regulatory compliance critical equipment.
4. Support Argo management by maintaining and reporting utility data including water, electricity, natural gas, and steam usage and emissions data resulting from maintenance activities.
5. Analyze and make recommendations for necessary capital investment, including:
a. Maintain an equipment replacement forecast and monitor end of service life trends.
b. Perform life cycle cost analysis on design modification and equipment upgrade options.
c. Function as project engineer for small capital projects from concept design to completion.
d. Assist in planning and execution of equipment overhauls, turnarounds, shutdowns, and other major maintenance activities.
6. Assure that MOC procedures are followed and work with other personnel to ensure that basic engineering concerns for safety, integrity, and reliability of equipment/hardware are given equal weight to operational needs and
scheduling priorities.
7. Support PSM by participating in HAZOP and PHA safety reviews for existing and new installations

Education / Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
8-10 years experience
A disciplined person possessing initiative and motivation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
