Manager Health, Safety and Environment (Specialty Chemicals)

Our client is a leading global producer of Specialty Chemicals for worldwide markets and is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Manager for their Rochester, NY facility. MANAGER OF HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTDescription• This position is responsible for developing and implementing procedures that effectively control regulatory compliance, accident prevention, environmental compliance, security, and health exposures in line with OSHA, EPA, DEC, DHS and other applicable regulatory agencies. • Directs a staff of two. Essential Functions of the position include: 1. Coordinates and assist in plant “Responsible Care” initiative to ensure the plant maintains practice in place in all Responsible Care codes. 2. Must acquire a working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). 3. Manages the Rochester Plant EHS&S programs to enforce regulations and to provide assistance to the plant in reducing risks and accidents. 4. Leads the implementation of environmental policies and practices and waste reduction activities. 5. Establishes team performance standards, through the implementation of the facility Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and communicates status to staff. 6. Assists the Rochester plant to understand and implement PSM, RMP, CFATS, and OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA, EPA, DHS and DEC compliance, inspections, etc. 7. Investigates any injuries in conjunction with team leaders and staff personnel. 8. Assesses new developments in EHS&S activities that may have application to the plant’s operations. 9. Responsible for overseeing the environmental programs including waste disposal with RCRA training, operation, air permitting, water discharges and groundwater monitoring. 10. Responsible for overseeing, implementing and maintaining the Responsible Care and Environmental Management System, and maintaining the facility RC-14001 certifications. Acts as RC14001 management representative. Requirements • BS in Environmental Science, Safety Management or related field• 10+ years experience in Safety/Environmental Manufacturing Industry. • Working knowledge of cGMP in a FDA-regulated environment preferable. • Preference for candidates with background in a chemical process manufacturing industry. • Candidates must demonstrate an ability to influence the organization to accomplish environmental and safety and health objectives and show a demonstrated commitment to a participative work environment.• Must have knowledge of all Federal and State EHS&S Laws and regulations.
