Measurement Technician

Under general supervision performs the installation, calibration and maintenance of pipeline volumetric measurement systems within an assigned segment of the pipeline system, to provide accurate custody transfers of petroleum products. Work is done in coordination with the delivery schedule into the various terminals and delivery points so that provings can be completed on the measurement devices being employed. Duties include: Calibrates existing meters to determine meter factors using provers (fixed or portable), or master meters on an established proving schedule or as directed. Coordinate work with scheduling and control centers to ensure provings are done at meaningful flow rates. As required, calculates meter correction factors from calibration data and input information into PFIS, or similar system for the generation of accurate billing of shippers. Installs, tests, inspects, maintains and repairs pipeline measurement systems. This includes but is not limited to: fixed and portable provers, meters, straightening vanes, strainers, temperature transmitters and meter output devices such as preamps, flow computers and combinators. Evaluates new meters for accuracy and to verify original manufacturer's specifications before committing to service. Checks temperature and pressure indicating devices associated with measurement systems. Schedule and work with outside specialists for the water draw of prover loops, portable provers, calibration and adjustment of loading rack meters, and tank strapping. Works with the Field Technical Supervisor and Measurement Coordinator to ensure that adequate spare parts, repair materials, meters and totalizers are maintained. Orders parts and repair materials as required. Provides regular verbal and written reports regarding the status of work and assists in the planning of both individual jobs and broad based maintenance programs. Reviews major and time consuming repairs with appropriate supervision. Maintains current files of company, vendor drawings and specifications. Prepares as-built and sketches from which permanent engineering drawings can be prepared. Makes recommendations to engineering regarding changes in equipment based on field inspections or work experience.



High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years related industry experience. Must have a valid D.O.T. drivers license (CDL license) for Truck-Trailer combination and placarded vehicles or higher as required, and be able to maintain a valid drivers license for the state of residence. Must be able to use various test equipment, measuring devices, hand and power tools, machinist tools and gauges. Must be able to interpret and work from drawings, plans and specifications relevant to the construction or alternation of measurement equipment or piping systems. Must be able and willing to use and operate all pertinent safety equipment when performing duties in potentially hazardous areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.), and display workmanship consistent with industry standards and company work practices. Works in accordance with all applicable codes and/or as indicated on engineering drawings and sketches.
