Movement Analyst

The incumbent will coordinate with assigned Crude and Product Scheduler(s) to ensure proper accounting treatment and recording of all crude and product moves in SAP. This includes international trading deals, black oil and residual trading, mid-continent light product and ethanol trading deals, northwest bunkering operations, and inter-and intra-company trading deals.  This position must have a basic understanding of GAAP accounting in order to facilitate the recording of inventory ownership in the proper period.  This position is a key liaison from Operations to Billing and Accounts Payable for settlement issue resolution.  Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

 

Crude and Product Transaction Recording Responsibilities 

· Review and interpretation of commodity contracts to determine proper accounting treatment in SAP.

· Responsible for creating purchase orders and sales orders for all commercial activity.

· Responsible for the review and validation of open purchase and sales order reports to determine accuracy of cash forecast in SAP. 

· Duties include the verification of contractual pricing as necessary, for review and accuracy.

· Responsible for preparation of product PO/SO within 24 hours of a contract being received.

· Responsible for ensuring data integrity through validation and reconciliation of all hydrocarbon transactions. 

 

Movement Responsibilities

· Analyze and understand scheduled hydrocarbon moves and proactively obtain source documents that support movements.  Properly record movements in SAP and SFIO and investigate and resolve discrepancies between actual and scheduled volumes.

· Responsible for the reconciliation/review of monthly shipping statements and finalization of all crude and product provisional receipts in order to make necessary volume movement adjustment entries into SAP and SFIO.

· Record estimated crude and product moves in SAP and SFIO based on nominations if necessary to assure proper accruals are recorded.

· Maintains responsibility for comprehensive administration (SAP and SFIO) of all inventory movements within assigned territory and creates and maintains transaction files. 

· Perform analysis of gains/loses in SAP, based upon 3rd party documentation.

· Responsible for completing all product transfers in SAP.

· Required to comply with audit and accounting guidelines.

 

Inventory Responsibilities

· Responsible for the collection of all necessary terminal inventory reports and proper recording of accurate inventory volumes in SAP and SFIO.

· Responsible for the updating of all terminal inventories and all rack liftings by grade in SFIO.

 

 

The selected candidate must have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting or related field, preferred but not required, or commensurate work experience.  Must have a minimum of 1 – 2 years experience as Movement Analyst, or industry experience preferred in S&O Operations support or in operational accounting. 

 

Additional requirements include: 1) Ability to read and interpret multiple types of contract and apply the proper accounting treatment; 2) Experience and understanding of petroleum operations preferred; 3) Background/experience in accounting preferred; 4) Experience in SAP, SFIO or related software preferred; 5) Strong analytical skills; 6) Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work harmoniously in a team setting; 7) Excellent organizational and customer service skills; and 8) Ability to meet time sensitive deadlines and requirements.
