We currently have a need for a PhD Toxicologist in our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Department at our Eastman Chemical Company headquarters located in Kingsport, Tennessee. This is a highly visible position both within the Company and externally and offers an opportunity to play an integral role in developing and maintaining a proactive toxicology program responsible for the support of Eastman’s new and existing products. A Toxicologist provides technical leadership in many areas which could encompass: Participating in the review and assessment of Company products and initiate any needed testing.Providing interpretation and consultation to businesses related to safety data.Preparing toxicological/human safety assessments pertaining to occupational, consumer, and environmental exposures derived from manufacturing processes and product usage.Participating on internal committees/teams on product stewardship, product defense and regulatory affairs matters.Representing the Company on external trade and scientific associations (CIIT, SOT, ACC). Tracking and monitoring existing and pending legislation/regulations and participating in strategic advocacy efforts. Serving as an expert in human health toxicology and risk assessment, and providing direction and guidance for managing risk assessment support programs.Qualifications:Required Degree: PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Health Sciences or closely allied science with a minimum of three years of directly related product safety experience
OR a MS with a minimum of five years of directly related product-safety experience. Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Toxicology. Working knowledge and theoretical background in toxicology is essential.General understanding of industrial chemical processes is preferred. Ability to work on projects teams composed of members from diverse multi-disciplinary backgrounds.Knowledge in computers, electronics, software logic, instrument troubleshooting and the latest statistical tools is essential. Candidate should be motivated to develop into a company expert (leader) in toxicology.Should have effective writing and oral communication skills.Willingness to travel to other Eastman locations to assist if necessary.
