Pipeline Integrity Specialist/Technician

This is a mid-level technician position with job responsibility for: external and internal corrosion control, coatings, project management, and pipeline integrity management. Also responsible for training and monitoring work of corrosion technicians, trainees, or contractors engaged in installation, modification, maintenance or repair of corrosion mitigation facilities. Assist in writing standards for the maintenance of the systems and the training of personnel. Attends at least one professional development course annually.

Incumbent represents the company in any and all PHMSA/State/Internal audits on any and all of the following tasks: Rectifier readings and maintenance; annual test point readings and associated diagnostics to meet accepted criteria on both pipelines and tank bottoms; selection and maintenance of permanent test points; selection and application of coatings; evaluating atmospheric corrosion of exposures (spans) and repair of coatings or environment at exposure (including some support work) when necessary; installing air-to-soil interface coatings and FRP’s where necessary. Support ILI runs; assist in field setup of ILI runs including setup of AGM’s; assist in tracking ILI tools; assist in repairing anomalies from ILI runs. Maintenance and monitoring of coupon water traps; performing and/or monitoring contractors on all water sample analysis to determine bacteria counts and solids analysis; assisting in recommendations for mitigation of all internal corrosion issues. Maintains coatings for above and below ground including station, tanks and all marine dock facilities; multiple cathodic protection and coating projects each year. Creates AFE’s for all corrosion related projects in the district; solicit multiple bids on large projects and ensure all contracts/releases are in place before work begins; review all contractor OQ records for compliance; design and manage assigned projects in the cathodic protection system for pipelines, facilities and storage tanks; maintain budget and ensure projects costs are inline with approved AFE; input project lists with estimated cots on annual basis to load into the district’s operations budget and help to maintain district budgets.



Associate’s degree, NACE certified. 5 - 7 years experience in pipeline integrity projects such as in-line inspection, hydrotesting, and direct assessment methods, corrosion control and coatings inspection. Technical knowledge for the application and maintenance of external and internal corrosion control. Detailed knowledge of pipeline operations, API and DOT procedures, HES and a working knowledge of Microsoft office applications. Working knowledge of measurement, mechanical and electrical/electronic activities as it is related to the corrosion duties. Must have excellent communication/interpersonal skills. Must be able to use sound judgment, be a self-starter and well organized.
