Pressure Equipment Inspector
Position Summary:
Provides pressure equipment integrity assurance in the assigned operating areas. Equipment within the PEI’s responsibility includes pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, relief valves and piping systems. Ensures compliance with pressure equipment laws and regulations and applicable industry codes, standards and recommended practices.
Works closely with the Corrosion & Materials Engineer and Pressure Equipment Engineers to establish inspection schedules, identify corrosion threats, monitor equipment condition, analyze inspection data, and make recommendations to ensure safe operation of pressure equipment.
Key job responsibilities include: 1) Establishes inspection intervals for piping and equipment per code and governmental requirements. Maintains intervals using electronic databases; perform pressure equipment internal and external inspections. Performs remaining life calculations 2) Generates repair/upgrade/modification recommendations based on inspection findings 3) Maintains PEI record keeping and documentation that is accurate, current and in compliance with applicable regulations, codes and departmental requirements 4) Maintains API certification for vessels, piping and tanks 5) Generates turnaround work scope with operations, PEI, and maintenance personnel. Plans inspection items. Supports turnaround inspection execution.
Requirements:
The selected candidate will have a Minimum of High school/GED diploma. Have API 510 certification; API 570 certification; API 653 certification preferred, but not required if willing to attend training and obtain certification after employment. Minimum of 5 years experience in Pressure Equipment Inspection at a refinery or petrochemical manufacturing facility.
Other requirements include: 1) Knowledge of industry pressure vessel, tank, and piping fabrication codes such as ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, ASME B16.5 and API-650 2) Basic understanding of NDE techniques and applications (UT, RT, PT, MT) 3) Proven ability to make decisions and recommendations on critical equipment integrity issues 4) Detailed understanding of the pressure equipment discipline, especially pressure equipment inspection and scheduling practices 5) Ability to understand and interpret NDE techniques used in the hydrocarbon processing industry.
