Honeywell products touch the lives of most people everyday, whether you’re flying on a plane, driving a car, heating or cooling a home, furnishing an apartment, taking medication for an illness or playing a sport.UOP is an international supplier of process technology, products, engineered systems and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, gas processing and energy industries and is a leader in the research and development of petroleum and petrochemical processing.  Our broad objectives center on the continual development and improvement of petroleum refining, petrochemical, gas production, energy and chemical production technology.  An excellent career opportunity is current available for a Process Specialist within UOP's Olefins, Detergents and Alkylation Technology Center located in Des Plaines, IL. Position Responsibilities:  * Provide ownership of engineering design expertise in one or more of the technologies within the the area of Olefins, Detergents and Alkylation portfolio and establish recognition within UOP and in the industry as an expert in these areas. * Set technical standards, policies and procedures for the technologies assigned. Maintain or oversee the maintenance of infrastructure (design guidelines, tools, templates and procedures) for those technologies. * Make recommendations, as appropriate, for design and technical modifications to improve technology.  Participate on teams related to the development of new or improved technology. * Be knowledgeable in the use of process simulator software such as Aspen and Hysys to optimize heat integration, fractionation and process flow schemes; develop H&WB’s for new units; perform revamp studies or troubleshooting of existing units; provide preliminary design studies for sales support.  * Provide sales support, including recommendations on guarantees, pricing, proposal content generation and direct customer interface as appropriate. * Coach and mentor less experienced engineers.  Attend PFD and P&ID reviews, monitor that design guidelines are followed and use these reviews as a forum to capture and create innovative design changes. General Position Accountabilities  * HS&E:  Deliver safe technology.  Be aware of HS&E risks and best practices inside and outside of the office environment.  * Growth and Productivity: Adapt UOP design standards and procedures to meet project-specific requirements on assigned design tasks. Be familiar with the Engineering Department design guidelines, work process map and quality policy and apply as appropriate to each project.  * Financial:  Manage projects within the manhour budget and schedule.  * People: Communicate clearly with internal and external customers. Participate in internal and customer-related Project Review Meetings. Maintain productive working relationships with others in the engineering department technology and skill centers, as well as Sales, Technical Services and Process Development. Work cooperatively and productively in a team environment.  * Enablers: Incorporate Honeywell tools, such a Six Sigma, to enhance the engineering work process and work product.Basic Candidate Qualifications: * Minimum BS degree in Chemical Engineering * Minimum 10 years engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry. * Ability to travel up to 20% of the time both domestically and internationallyAdditional Candidate Qualifications:  * HF Alkylation process design experience is considered ideal. * Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work well within a team based environment. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, UOP a Honeywell Company is committed to a diverse workforce.
