Avatar Corporation is an FDA registered manufacturer and distributor of raw materials and ingredients for the food, drug, and cosmetic industries.  We are a privately held, Illinois corporation located on a 23 acre site in University Park.  Avatar is a growing company on target to be the leader in specialty and release agents and lubricants for the food and drug industries

 

This position is responsible for managing all aspects of inventory control, purchasing and vendor relations. The Materials Manager will negotiate with vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost, quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards.

 

Essential Job Functions:Initiates purchase orders and amendments for raw materials and supplies; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required. Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistic, inventory control and management.  Interacts with sales and operations concerning current and future materials requirements to optimize production and customer service levels.Manages the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services.Develop and implement forecasting methodology for Master SchedulerCoordinates as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes or developments between company and suppliers.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Bachelor’s degree required with five to ten years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment.Thorough working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures.Complete knowledge of warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures.Extensive knowledge of material work planning and methods engineering processes and procedures.Extensive knowledge and ability to negotiate best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements.Personal computer skills, mainframe operations for procurement-related software, and knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes required.MRP/ERP competency and experience required (implementation experience preferable).
