Safety Specialist - Proactive Behavioral Approach

EXPANDING COMPLEX WITH VERY PROFITABLE COMPANY seeking another Safety Specialist

Position Responsibilities:

• Function in all aspects concerning Health and Safety.

• Interface with all levels of supervision and workforce in safety matters on a daily basis.

• Analyze Federal, State and local safety regulations to assist workforce to perform work in a safe manner that complies with regulations.

• Stay abreast of new or pending safety regulations and methods of enforcement and inspections by regulatory agencies.

• Interface with independent contractors to ensure compliance of government regulations and Company Safety Policies.

• Support the Lightkeeper Behavior Based Safety Process.

• Assist all departments in analyzing work behavior to eliminate unsafe acts/conditions that contribute to injuries.

• Participate in the Tap Root investigation process.

• Perform monthly safety audits and safety contacts per schedule.

• Prepare reports (monthly, audit, investigation, etc.).

• Report on safety issues at various meetings (crew, turnaround, SHE).

• Provide second shift coverage during turnarounds.

• Instruct the workforce in required annual training and conduct new training as needed to ensure safe performance.

• Stay abreast of new training methods to enhance annual safety training.

• Participate with the Emergency Response Team.

• Assume other duties as assigned by the manager.

 

Required Qualifications:

• Advanced safety training or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Safety Sciences a plus.

• North Carolina Certified Emergency Medical Technician preferred.

• Five years experience in chemical manufacturing and/or manufacturing facility or related industries.

• Good safety record and low absenteeism.

• Successful completion of testing/assessment.
