Senior Controls Systems Engineer
Position Summary:
The CSE is responsible for control systems performance and technical assurance for an assigned area of the refinery. The CSE has a functional working knowledge of (for assigned production units): the control systems applications and hardware, the process operation and theory, the operational goals, the ESP variables, the constraints, the key quality specifications for feeds and products, the impact on the environment, the interrelationship with the rest of the refinery, and the major economic variables and how they impact refinery profitability. Control systems includes Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Protective Instrument Systems (PIS), General & Specialty Instrumentation, Online Analyzers, Process Computers & Scanning hardware, Process Data Historian, Data Visualization & Trending Tools, Alarm Management Tools, and Information Systems. Provides an active role and support in furthering the health, safety, and environmental direction and goals both for their operations support area and where they can for the site.
Key job responsibilities include:
1) Take the time to do each job safely.
2) Report all injuries.
3) Report and correct any unsafe conditions.
4) Understand and adhere to all site CSE procedures.
5) Ensures full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Technical Standards/Procedures/Orders.
6) Reviews Protective Instrument Systems (PIS) classification to insure compliance with corporate and PSM standards.
7) Assures that existing control systems supporting compliance are functioning at an operational excellent state.
8) Proactively seeks how to improve.
Requirements:
The selected candidate will have a Minimum of BS or higher Engineering Degree (chemical is preferred). Good background on base level control and instrumentation (pneumatic, electronic, TDC, etc.)
Other requirements include:
1) Knowledge of corporate policies and industry standards.
2) Good Communication Skills (Oral/Written).
3) Able to work with diverse groups.
4) Expertise on steady state process simulation packages (SimSci, Aspen, etc.)
5) Expertise on control algorithm implementation.
6) Knowledge of Advanced Control Algorithms
7) Good Organizational /Planning skills as much of the day to day work is reactive and longer term progress also needs to be made.
8) Able to build a vision and strategy to consensus with their customers/stakeholders.
