Honeywell products touch the lives of most people everyday, whether you’re flying on a plane, driving a car, heating or cooling a home, furnishing an apartment, taking medication for an illness or playing a sport. The Senior Refining Process Engineer will contribute technical ideas and complete preliminary process simulations to evaluate ideas in order to determine optimum refinery configurations and best use of existing assets.  Within the Optimization group, the Senior Refining Process Engineer role is involved with a wide variety of refining and petrochemical process technologies; the work is consistently focused on optimization of customer economics. As such, defining and presenting these studies can provide UOP with significant competitive advantage to win the technology, equipment and catalyst supply to those projects via enhanced insight into both customer needs and economics and UOP’s optimized technical offering.  This position is ideal for someone who is interested in expanding their exposure and knowledge of a number of process technologies and how multiple process units are best configured to optimize refinery economics. The position provides key contributions in the development of optimum techno-economic solutions in:  UOP refinery configuration studies, energy optimization studies, H2 management studies, and fractionation studies. These studies represent UOP’s primary involvement with the early stages of customer projects, especially larger scope projects such as new refineries and major refinery and petrochemicals expansions.  Accountabilities of this position include:  Locate or generate and provide preliminary technical information (yields, product properties, hydrogen consumption, major equipment requirements, utilities, capital cost estimates, etc) for hydroprocessing and other refining processes for the majority of studies completed in the Optimization Services group. Provide and evaluate technical ideas to be considered in order to optimize the economics of refinery and petrochemical configurations Construction, use and interpretation of process models in Hysys/Unisim in support of all the studies completed by the Optimization Services group (see above). Interpret operating test run data and very preliminary process simulation data to determine equipment and unit bottlenecks, maximum unit capacities and minimum cost revamp schemes. Development of calculation and reference tools which improve the efficiency of locating and generating technical information used in Optimization Services studies. Serve as departmental coordinator and resource for process information and tools for 1 or more major UOP process technologies. Participate in customer meetings to understand needs, identify opportunities, and present UOP results and recommendations.Provide technical coaching and mentoring of 1 - 2 process engineers in the Optimization Services Department Basic Qualifications: B.S. Degree in Chemical engineering or higher 10 years minimum work experience with majority in refining and petrochemical industry 3 years minimum work experience in process engineering function in refining and petrochemical industry 2 or more years of design experience with hydroprocessing technology and preferably design experience in other major refining process technologies such as  FCC and  catalytic reforming. Significant experience and proficiency in Hysys/Unisim. (Additional process engineering experience with other simulation software is desirable.) Experience and ability to work well in a team environment Good networking skills to facilitate access to other skills and knowledge within UOP Solid communication skills including experience in report writing, meeting participation and formal presentations to clients Willingness to travel at irregular intervals for up to 2 weeks duration (typically 3-4 days) with overall travel amount around 10%“Plus” Qualifications: Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering Experience in development of calculation and reference tools to access and generate technical information is desired, but not required Experience in using LP planning tools and basic refinery economics is desired, but not required. Experience in energy pinch analyses and tool development is desired, but not required.
