Software Development Engineer

General Physics is seeking a motivated Software Developer for our expanding Performance Engineering Services business unit in Amherst, New York. GP provides engineering software and services to the power and petrochemical industries.

Position Summary
The Software Development Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining software programs and applications that support the process and power generation industries.

Position Responsibilities
Develop and maintain engineering software
Collaborate with other developers and company teams in creating optimal, maintainable, and scalable architecture and design
Provide technical support and training to external customers
Implement calculations and algorithms that determine power and process equipment performance

Position Qualifications
Bachelors of Science in Engineering or Computer science.
2+ years of software development experience primarily in a .NET environment
Detail Oriented
Up to 10% travel to customer sites may be required

Required Skills
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems
Ability to write code using Microsoft VB.NET (C# a plus)
Knowledge of .NET framework
Database programming experience with Microsoft SQL Server

Desired Skills
Development experience using an industrial data historian such as OSISoft’s PI a plus
Familiarity with the Power Generation or Process Industries a plus
Microsoft .NET Certifications a plus
Understanding of thermodynamics and power plant performance a plus
