Supervising Chemist Metals Analysis

We currently seek a high caliber Supervising Chemist - Metals Analysis for a direct position within an R&D Group. Based in Houston, TX, you will be working for one of the world’s leading chemical/Petrochemical companies.

Job Description: This role is responsible for development and continuous improvement of the Center of Excellence for metals analysis.This position will involve a significant amount of non-routine analysis and the successful candidate will be expected to perform work at a high level of flexibility under minimal supervision.Drive method development and implement new analytical methods.Effectively engage directly with production and research teams to plan and conduct analytical work.  Role requires initiative and drive to bring projects to completion in a timely mannerGather and ensure good quality analytical data from established methods.Supervise and mentor analytical technician(s)Demonstrate safe laboratory practices; maintain a safe and orderly laboratory.

 

 

Job Requirements: Strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills.Practical experience with method development in digestion techniques, Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emissions Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS) and x-ray fluorescence (XRF).Practical experience with statistical process control for monitoring quality of instruments and methods.Strong troubleshooting skills.Ability to use own knowledge and skills to apply existing resources to new problems.Successful in independent work and in team environments.Excellent habits in safety and housekeeping.

 

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the petrochemical industry

Minimum of a BS in Chemistry

 

Desired Skills:

 

· Six Sigma Green Belt or experience with equivalent continuous improvement processes.

· Practical experience with instrumentation and wet lab methods including

· Gas Chromatography, GC-MS.

· Practical experience with lab or commercial scale process unit sampling systems.

·  Advanced degree in Chemistry
