Technical Service Application Engineer

This Technical Service/Applications Engineer will work on site at the customer, major auto producer, and ensure the proper procedures are followed in applying the exterior automotive coating on plastic substrates.  Will work independently at the plant after being trained in the coatings application at the Chicago, IL plant.  The backup team in Chicago is going to support this engineer while they are in the field for coating specifications, testing procedures and formulation changes.
Duties include training line operators in spraying techniques, work with engineers in robotics programming for spray techniques and generally getting answers for the customers on color matches, correct coating reductions, solvents and perform tests on the paint, viscosity, % solids, draw-downs and spray outs.  Essential to this job are the communication skills, where someone is able to defuse the situation and get the application solutions in a timely manner, reduce any downtime in the assembly line and continually improve the customer realtionship with the paint supplier.

Requirements

BS Chemistry preferred but will consider any non-degreed individual coupled with 5-8 years of experience from a paint laboratory.  This candidate could come from a Paint Quality Control arena where they have tested paints at the bench for correct specifications, color, physical properties and performed spray outs of solvent based paints.  A Research and Development chemist is another background that would be considered where the candidate has developed any of a variety of coatings, solvent based, water based coatings used in General Industrial, Coil Coatings, Electro-static coatings ( E-Coats), and OEM automotive exterior finishes.
Communication skills are essential to ensure quality, problem solving skills, mediator skills to resolve difficult plant problems and on call for this customer.
