Job Title:  Staff Engineer

 

 

Department:  Corporate Engineering based at our Irving, TX headquarters

 

 

Reports To:  Engineering Manager

 

 

Mission:  To provide quality, reliable, cost effective, pretreatment and chemical feed systems, which require a minimum of installation time and mechanical/electrical expertise of our sales force and customers.  Our primary business and revenue stream is the sale of water treatment chemicals.  The primary goal of the Chem-Aqua Engineer is to provide technical support to minimize the time spent by our field force for equipment installation and start-up, while maximizing the time available for the pursuit of new chemical sales and business. 

 

 

Purpose of the Job:  Responsible for providing engineering application support as it relates to water treatment. Support includes troubleshooting, proposing, and installing pretreatment and chemical feed systems for process water systems that use heat exchange equipment as the medium to transfer heat.

 

Work Environment:  Work is to be performed in three environments: (1) Office, (2) Manufacturing, and (3) Field.  Work in manufacturing and the field will be performed in varying weather conditions and with usual hazards associated with chemical and process environments.

 

Work Hours:  Normal weekday office hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday.  Due to the nature of our business, night, weekend, and holiday hours may be required to meet our sales force and customer needs.  Compensatory time off will be offered when these job requirements occur.

 Travel:  Day and/or over night travel are required for much of the work performed in the field.  

Essential Job Functions:

 Prepare application quotes using Microsoft Word, and Excel.

 Review equipment orders for proper application based on ChemAqua Boiler, Cooling, and Pretreatment Survey information along with Boilersolve/Coolsolve calculations, prior to final approval for Equipment Division manufacture.

 Troubleshoot water treatment equipment locally (on-site) or remotely (phone, e-mail, voicemail, etc.).

 Prepare written technical instructions for equipment as it relates to water treatment equipment.

 Use mathematical formulas to precisely size water treatment equipment.

 Issue and evaluate return authorizations on defective equipment under warranty.

 Create equipment part codes on new equipment purchased

 Train employees, field personnel, and customers in the equipment, tools, work techniques and skills required to accomplish assignments.

 

 Additional Job FunctionsManage and complete special projects set forth by Engineering Department.

 

 Qualifications And Capabilities

 TECHNICAL

 Prefer engineering degree or other hard science, however will accept 10+ years of water treatment experience in lieu of degree.  Best candidate has  a combination of both. (minimum experience considered is a degree plus 2 years field water treatment experience)

 Mechanical knowledge of boilers and HVAC systems

 Proficient use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook.

 Ability to use analytical and control equipment.

 

 

 PHYSICAL

 Must have physical strength and ability to lift up to 40 pounds and carry such a weight for 100 feet.

 Must have good visual ability for close-up observations and use of analytical and control equipment

 Must have good depth perception and ability to distinguish different colors.

 Must have hearing sufficient to hear verbal and audible signals at a moderate distance.

 Must be conditioned to sustain work in 115 oF mechanical rooms.

 OTHER

 Must have a valid Drivers License.

 Must have reading ability sufficient to read technical manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, trade magazines, codes, and other technical materials.

 Must have writing ability sufficient to write correspondence, proposals, technical literature, and instructions.

 Must have good communication skills to deal with the public and to work cooperatively with sales force and other company employees.
