Research and Development Technician

 

Serta Mattress Company, a market leader of exceptional quality products & services, has an exciting opportunity at our NW suburban Chicago corporate office for a Research and Development Technician in our R&D Center.

Under general supervision, performs tests and inspections; documents, evaluates and provides feedback on results on a timely basis using standard testing models and techniques for the analysis of systems, raw materials, materials-in-process and finished products on new and existing products as well as to help determine the effect of changes on end product design and function for Serta and the competitors’ products. Implements and utilizes test tools and strategies as needed to assist in the design and/or improvement of products.  Makes recommendations to changes in testing methods or equipment as needed. Assists with projects related to designing methods to improve efficiency in production and utilization of materials and personnel. Tests finished product for quality purposes and makes recommendations for changes to product specifications as necessary. Communicates proactively with supervisor and other Group and Plant personnel as needed.

Requires associate degree (or equivalent formal education/training in related field and experience) with 1-2 years of relevant experience in the field or in a related area such as the needle trade/upholstery/textiles or mattress building; ability to lift and move heavy materials and products on a regular basis; good eye/hand coordination and attention to detail with good analytical and organizational skills, effective communication skills; solid computer (pc and mainframe applications); and ability to handle multiple projects on a timely basis. Some local, regional and national travel may be required. Knowledge of basic/preventive maintenance of bedding equipment and familiarity with bedding production operations highly preferred!!
