POSITION SUMMARY: 

This role is responsible for managing a software development team that i) develops and manages web based SAAS applications, ii) develops a suite of internally used tools, and iii) supports business development with technical expertise.  This role requires interacting with customers and internal teams to identify and translate needs into solutions.  This position is key, integral, and demanding and set in Kenexa’s fast-paced Survey business unit.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This role includes the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Develop and manage developers in the creation of functional and design specifications, as well as the establishment and adherence to performance requirements.

2. Drive the process of gathering, distilling, and synthesizing requirements from key stakeholders (customers and internal groups) into solutions meeting the needs expressed during the requirement gathering process.  

3. Analyze software requirements and translate them into work plans meeting time and cost constraints.

4. Partner with the hosting team to ensure customer needs are met.

5. Ensure software development standards are followed.  Insure functional design notes are written and reviewed, as well as technical design notes, code reviews performed, regression tests developed, etc.).

6. Provide thought leadership in system architecture.

7. Participate in capital expenditure budgeting planning.

8. Establish baselines of developed solutions and achieve measurable improvements through functional innovations. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

A successful candidate will be able to address many of the following:

1. Management:  Experience in managing developers, project plans, schedules, and milestones.

a. Customer-driven attitude.  Understands systems impact and long-term effects of decisions/solutions on business case and customer commitments.

b. Experienced project planning, scheduling, and tracking of software development and testing process.  Disciplined to create business cases when resources as needed.

c. Ability to manage and resolve complex and ambiguous issues.

d. Business understanding of financials.  Capable of managing to a budget.

e. Self-managed proactive work style.

f.  Understanding of the necessity to meet stringent time deadlines

g. Demonstrated track record of making sound engineering decisions to meet deadlines.

h. Experience leading geographically separated developers a plus.

2. Software Design:  Exceptional analytical skills and experience in preparing software requirements, concepts for user interfaces, and functional specifications

a. Experience working with others to create functional requirement documents.

b. In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Web Application development. 

c. SAAS application development experience a plus

3. Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal/written communication skills and interpersonal skills are a necessity.

a. Strong presentation skills in presenting technical concepts to salespeople, client service staff, and other technical and non-technical settings.

4. Familiarity with the following technologies is a plus: .NET 2.0, MS Access, MS SQL Server 2005, MS Reporting Services.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

1. Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science and or Information Systems).

2. Advanced technical degree a plus.

3. 5+ years of experience in managing software development teams.
