ABOUT THE POSITION
The US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC) seeks self-motivated and results-oriented individuals to join the Combat Clothing and Equipment Team in the Warfighter Protection and Aerieal Delivery Directorate, which is responsible for supporting the soldier by designing and fielding individual combat clothing, equipment, footwear and load carriage gear that integrates technology to make a more mobile, more survivable, and more lethal Warfighter.

NSRDEC is located in Natick, Massachusetts, under the Army's RD&E Command.  We have the dedicated mission to maximize the Warrior's survivability, sustainability, mobility, combat effectiveness and quality of life by treating the Soldier as a System.  Situated near the birthplace of the Nation's Army, NSRDEC is also the birthplace of the Soldier as a System concept.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsibilities include planning, conducting and executing projects to develop new or improve existing types of clothing and individual equipment.  You will research, analyze and assist in the development of military requirements for clothing and individual equipment items or systems and will also prepare technical data in preparation of performance specifications.




Desired requirements include a high degree of originality, professional judgment, evaluation techniques and initiative as well as the ability to prepare reports, technical data and presentations concerning project status.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Degrees Wanted:  Bachelors

Majors Wanted:  Clothing/Apparel, Fashion Design and/or Textile Studies

Special Skills Wanted:

Minimum GPA:  2.5


OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Candidates must possess all of the following qualifications:

- United States Citizenship;

- Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher;

- Minimum of 20 academic hours in cotton, fiber or textile technology, biology, chemistry, physics or related subjects such as mechanical or electrical engineering that included courses in cotton technology;

- Selective Service Registration:  (males born after 31 December 1959);

 - Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.



Interns begin the program at the GS-5/7/9 level.  Those hired at the GS-5/7 level may receive a one-time accelerated promotion to the GS-7/9 level after six months.  There-on-after, the waiting periods for receiving promotions are 1 year up to the GS-12 level. This position is being filled under the Federal Career Intern Program (FCIP).  This is an excepted appointment not to exceed two years.  Individuals who successfully complete the program are eligible for conversion to career or career-conditional appointments.


The full performance level for this position is at the GS-12 level.
