CISCO VOIP NETWORK ENGINEER

Job Description:

This position will support planning, integration, and implementation for the VoIP environment as the primary new work. This position will perform 3rd level support for network problem resolution. Service requests will support the following:

-Technology refreshment and infrastructure upgrades

-Moves to support reorganization, office/equipment relocations, additional front-end interview stations, Headquarters campus renovations, Foreign Service Post site security upgrades/moves

-Network expansion to support VoIP and wireless network access

-LAN expansion for new hires, electronic Hearing Room, and changes to Windows architecture

-Increase of capacity and resilience of scalable network infrastructure

-Maintenance of the infrastructure at the National Computer Center and the Regional Operation Control Centers

Major Activities:

-Network Requirements Analysis

-Meet and work with user groups to determine network requirements

-Analyze and negotiate resolution to conflicting requirements

-Idenitfy impact of requirements

-Document requirements

-Evaluate and report on site physical characteristics

-Develop and report on potential solutions

-In support of LAN/WAN infrastructure, participate in planning and evaluation of solutions by creating design documents in Visio, researching and documenting requirements and solutions

-Lead effort in the physical and logical network planning, design, and implementation of SSA offices including large sites and relocations.

-Interact with user representatives from all affected components

-Perform requirements analysis

-Identify and resolve conflicting requirement

-Document network design for each facility

-Coordinate delivery, service, and installation of Ethernet switches in large sites, tracking with status reports detailing issues

-Troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches and resolve CAPRS problem tickets using standard tools and processes. Research using tools including CiscoWorks, telnet, and other trace tools

-Track inventory, projects, network sites, and network elements with assistance using in-house database or tool

-Produce scripts for changes, configuration verification and other purposes

-Design, code, and test scripts written in Perl, Ruby and/or Expect to collect data, monitor network conditions or effect change to network elements

-Prepare reports based on collected data and change events
