Enterprise Strategic Capacity Planning Lead - Columbus, Ohio
POSITION SUMMARY
Fortune 500 company in Columbus, Ohio is seeking an Enterprise Strategic Capacity Planning Lead to act as a technical expert and business unit liaison. Position will be responsible for coordinating and investigating capacity planning activities as well as researching and recommending options and potential courses of action.
Position is responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in capacity planning, including forecasting future capacity needs, improvements, and optimization. This position is NOT a “hands on” capacity planning position. This role is to act as an advisor, strategist, and architect for capacity planning. There are existing capacity planners who are responsible for the daily capacity planning efforts. This role is to lead, direct, and ensure the accuracy of their activities.
This position would be ideal for someone who is looking to move into a management or architecture role from an existing capacity planning position. This position will oversee and research capacity planning efforts at an enterprise level.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Experience: Eight years of technical software and hardware analysis, programming and installation. Three years of project management experience is preferred
Candidates should have enterprise level experience in a Fortune 500 company.
Candidates must have a strong background in hardware and software systems engineering as well as a strong understanding of business. Specific technical experience in capacity planning is greatly preferred.
Candidates must possess a strong background in working closely with business units and technology to research impacts, and clearly communicate obstacles, costs, and options. Candidates should have experience with researching and presenting business cases for large scale, long term technology initiatives. Candidates should have the ability to forecast business trends and align capacity with new product development.
Candidates should possess the ability to think creatively, deal successfully with ambiguous situations, and have the knowledge to develop their own tools and tracking mechanisms for forecasting.
Candidates should have a positive attitude, and understand the “big picture” aspects of impacts. Candidates must be willing and able to train and mentor less experience team members. Candidates should have strong project management and prioritization experience.
Must have strong analytical and decision-making skills. Must be able to perform financial and risk analysis on complex operating systems and platforms. Must have strong project as well as process management skills. Must possess negotiation skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead configuration/capacity planning teams, software product evaluation, systems performance analysis and optimization for software/hardware systems.
Conduct long-term strategic planning activities for the development and implementation of hardware/software systems architecture and technical guidelines.
Act as a source of direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff.
Provide consultation and technical expertise to senior management.
Execute configuration management, vendor management, problem mitigation, change management, and critical situation management to complex systems as well as their multiple platforms and software applications
Analyze the complex systems that have multiple platforms, widespread impact and call for interpretation and coordination of highly technical and complex fields of information.
Ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
Analyze, design, develop and implement the most complex solutions, modifications, or enhancements to existing hardware/software applications or a suite of integrated systems for the company and/or a particular business unit. Identifies and defines new hardware/software technologies to fit specialized business needs and configurations.
Plan and conduct complex software/hardware product evaluations; develop and recommend technical strategies and solutions to senior management. Lead in assessments of risk, cost, and return on investment scenarios and impact as well as potential compatibility issues with existing hardware/software.
