Fiber Optics Application Engineer

Job Purpose:

Serves fiber optic customers by anticipating market requirements; engineering optical applications; providing technical support to sales team.



Duties:

* Anticipates fiber optic market requirements by researching competitors; establishing personal rapport with persons in a position to understand needs; reading professional and trade publications; participating in professional organizations; tracking and understanding emerging sales engineering practices.



* Contributes to sales team effectiveness by identifying potential customers; articulating customer needs; identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; recommending options and courses of action; providing technical information and commentary; making technical presentations and demonstrations to customers; responding to requests for information (RFIs) and requests for proposal (RFPs); organizing sales calls; preparing cost estimates.



* Develops optical solutions by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying fiber optic engineering concepts, approaches, techniques, and criteria; adapting and modifying engineering options; preparing drawings; conforming to industry standards.



* Determines optical solution improvements by evaluating changing requirements; analyzing cost-benefit ratios of applications.



* Trains customers' staff by developing and conducting training programs.



* Prepares sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing sales information and engineering and application trends.



* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.



* Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
